Archaeology cat
Have you been checked for tongue tie? Posterior ties are often not recognized, but can cause TMJ, tension headaches, apnea, etc. I didn't know about my posterior tie until two of my children had them. It totally explains why I was a mouth-breather until my palate was expanded, and why I needed so much orthodontic work. My sister was told she had TMJ, but looks like she might be tied as well. (Ties are often genetic)
superblue
i have to research that cat, i am really not sure, last doc visit he took one look into my mouth an i guess he saw the soft palate and right away said i had sleep apnea and i was like are you kidding ? an he goes, do you snore an i am like ya, an lol he asks how do you know, an i am like i been told i do.... * i thought i was snoring cause i was sleeping awesomely from a hard day * But i do have sleeping problems, cause i can sleep all day if given the chance, have enough energy for like 4 hrs of work and then go back to bed. I go to bed at like no joke 930 , wake up at 530, and am hardly rested, and end up taking naps anyhow .... But My TMJ is off an on, and i know it started it from stress and clinching my jaw .. it isn't fun and super annoying when the jaw is grinding and popping while eating....... okay fun times,

If so, you really might have a posterior tongue tie. It's harder finding things for adults who are tied. Some doctors do not know about posterior ties, though. Like, my son's pediatrician and his first ENT both said he wasn't tied (and the ENT doubted posterior ties even exist) because he could stick out his tongue. But he didn't have full range of motion like he should have. Second ENT took one look and recognized it. My daughter's tie is pretty thick, but hasn't been clipped because it isn't causing a problem at this time. If it does, we'll clip it. I can't touch the top of my mouth with my tongue with my mouth open, which is one of the signs of tongue tie. I don't get the tension headaches any more, so I' not in a hurry to try to get it done. puellapaschalis
How many of us now are sitting at our computers with the gob open (exactly how open are we talking?) and trying to touch the roof of the mouth with our tongues?
Archaeology cat
too funny reading that i was sitting here touching my mouth with my tongue with my mouth open like ya said and i can do it . so i guess maybe i dont have it.... LOL That isn't the only criteria, just one that can happen (and is for my daughter and me) And of course, tongue tie isn't the only explanation for TMJ, either. It's just on my mind a lot.
