I am currently learning Polish on-and-off (I sometimes teach myself new words, or my Sisters teach me). I know the greetings, some numbers, almost all the Mass responses, and how to ask people what they're doing or how they're going. It helps that some words have multiple meanings, e.g. the word "Proszę",  as far as I know, has nine meanings, so it all depends on the inflection. I know how to say "I love you", "I think, therefore I am", "I don't know", "I don't remember", and "What are your quirks/idiosyncrasies?", but by far my favourite is the word for "gnomes", which I learned one hilarious evening and which I happen to know in all its forms (masculine, feminine, and plural).

I really like the Russian words for cup (chashka; just fun to say!) and turtle (che-rih-pa-ha). I tried to learn how to flirt in Russian one afternoon. I just sounded like I was yelling, so I gave up on that.

Speaking of Russian, I got in touch with the director of the ministry choir I'm in and we're doing at least one Russian piece (Bogoroditse) and possibly the Hymn of the Cherubim as well. That one's seven minutes, so I'm not sure where we'd fit that one in. We're also going to try and do Biebl's Ave Maria (largely because of my incessant nagging, I think :|) and Lauridsen's O Magnum (for the same reason). I find it really ironic that while we, a small ministry choir, are doing huge works in other languages, the relatively large academic choir I'm in is singing profound pieces like "Java Jive." :annoyed:

I do like the sound of Russian. I used to know how to say "Hello", but can't anymore. I can say "Goodbye" though. Today I learned "I don't understand" and "Me too" in Polish.

Enjoy the singing. When do you perform your pieces?

DC about the photography maybe ask some established photographers if you could be a second shooter for them. I have a friend who also starting out in photography and she is working as a second shooter. From what she has posted it sounds like it has been a great way to establish herself and learn more and develop her skills.
