For Some Traumatised and Behaviourally Disturbed Children

Yesterday I took two visiting American friends (both very gifted musicians, one of them a professor of music) into the refugee camp where I've been working to lead a day of musical games for the kids in the primary school. We worked with the kids in batches of twenty. Tears came to my eyes at how focused and happy even the most disturbed children were able to be with such a high ratio of adult support (during the school year there is one teacher for 40 kids, but with the addition of me and my friends the ratio was more like 1:4), and how much they loved the musical activities. There is one boy with autism and epilepsy in the camp who couldn't stop grinning. He turns out to be very musical and to have a fabulous sense of rhythm! It was great to see him enjoying himself so much. Please pray that all the children benefit from it and that we will be able to do more for them if it's God will. Next summer I'd like to have a big camp for the creative arts.

Please also pray for my two musician friends. They were in tears themselves over some of the things they witnessed, stuff I've got used to but they've never seen before. They were also shocked that even the most basic musical games were new to these children; some of them can't hold a simple rhythm or detect a pitch at all. Ask God to bless them for their willingness to come and work with us and to give them courage and inspiration for whatever they do next.
