This is an exceptionally beautiful document and an excellent explanation of the problems re environment - and our own responsibility in the scheme of things and why.

i just read one line of it about fungi and other such things as being essential to a good eco system and how we are shocked at the extinction of birds and mammals, but that these other things are essential.

I have a Proove it attitude now with the environment, i don't doubt we think we know more than we actually do scientifically. :)

Like not that i think we shouldn't be good stewards of the earth, but i also think we think we know more than we actually know.

The workings of the planet is about as big a mystery as the workings of the mind and heart. Our understandings of such things is a big growing thing over many 1000s of years and we have only had a civilized consciousness for 5000 years as far as i'm aware. We have a long way to go i believe before we can make serious judgments on such matters. Though i will read what the Holy Father has said and take it into serious consideration.

Everyone who writes on the environment fails to illuminate the truth that the 1st commandment of God is to be fruitful and multiply. This is going to happen no matter what, even with NFP the population will always multiply and not go into the negative or stay the same, it is Gods plan. Whether we totally populate the earth slowly or quickly is the question. I suggest storing as many seeds as we can that we may hydroponically grow a food source once we have completely populated the surface of the earth. Though of course i hope when that time comes there will be at least one nature park and zoo with large enclosures per nation. Some may take my view as pessimistic in a human climate that seems to adore creation more than the creator, some may see my view as realistic in light of the 1st commandment given to adam and eve.

Though again of course i'm in favor of good stewardship of our natural resources and a fairer distribution of wealth. I am totally against environmental vandalism and greed.

sorry my usual flood but i feel this is important. We Will definitely become a teeming mass spreading far and wide across the surface of this planet until the 2nd coming of Christ, and even than after that the book of the apocalypse tells us that there will still be sinners outside of the new Jerusalem, whatever that means.

Again whether we get there slowly or quickly, and please again i am strictly against environmental vandalism and agree we should be mindful of the way we consume and treat our resources whether great or little and all even our computers having it's roots as the earth and the earth having its roots from God.

My favorite is paragraph 22 so far. This is pretty much the crux of all this to me, that society become an ecosystem, just like the earth is an ecosystem.

We will definitely not "become a teeming mass spreading far and wide" in the way you think. Despite doomsday idiots screaming that the sky is falling, there is no over population and no limit of natural resources that are necessary to our survival. Even if we quadrupled our population and then quadrupled it again, a well taken care of, non toxicified, Earth would be able to support us all. No special sci fi crops or desalinization required.

even if every square mile was city? That is our possible destiny julianne :) i have propped your post, not because i agree 100% but i do agree with the doomsday overpopulation pun. At the rate the population has been increasing the last 100 years if it gets faster and faster we perhaps could be looking at a trillion within 75 years. But also i can't see the future. :)

....No, it's not. :| The current population is small enough to reside completely in a "city" the size of Texas, and very comfortably so. And we're mortal. Natural disasters, disease, and simple old age will always limit the population to a very great extant. Exactly how do you think we could possible get to a population large enough to literally cover the face of the earth like that? Even if we are here for another hundred thousand years, that won't happen.

...Sorry, I wasn't trying to turn this into a debate.

lol. Self assurance and self confidence isn't necessarily, whats the word that the psy world uses, i can't remember the word anyway we will use a new christian term i just made up, self dignity. Perhaps you are correct, perhaps you are not. :) The sky rises in this city the size of texas would have to all be taller than our tallest building perhaps? And where do we get the material and labor to build such a project, nope, at our current level of civilisation such a city is not possible and we will just continue to spread the old school way. :) Though one massive city the size of texas perhaps is a better option than the current trend. :)

Hate to be a dog with a bone here, but I am sure of myself because it's not my nice idea, it's math. If you divide the total square footage of Texas by the number of people alive today you end up with about 1000sqft/person. So if you didn't have to worry about geography or roads and such, two people could live in a lovely 1000sqft single story home and have a 1000sqft garden. It's just a thought experiment, but the point is clear. We are in absolutely no danger of over population.

The issues with food supply and greed, which are the real problems, are avoidable and fixable... If only people would.

Yeah, but I am better than most people so I deserve 500 acres. I will make war if I don't get it.

So there goes your theory.

Who are these doomsday idiots you speak of?

Also, I think you may be missing the point. The earth is not simply a resource to be used. It is beauty to be admired.

I have no idea what you just said.

Most people don't.
