Homeshchooled Or Not?

About social life. Schools force me to work with people who I can not stand. I have to work with them and get along and produce an output. I have to do that. A social life with friends is not going to get you those skills of working with people that are years smarter than you or behind you or just plain rude. You don't have that interaction in Home Schooling.

As to homeschoolers scoring better on SATs than public school kids. Lets see a better number than that. Public schools are the desporty for the kids who don't care and have no plans to go on to college. Lets compere college bound public school students to college bound home school studnets. That would be a real compereasion. And probly nhil difference. Or it would put public schools ahead by far.

School is meant not to grant you an education. It is meant to get you ready for the next step of life. Either college, a job, or armed forces. A vital part of college and employablity is social skills and working with those who you have nothing in common with. Therefore school is about education AND social skills.

As a public schooler I get people trained in their feild and when I exceed that person abilty to teach I am sent to a community college to learn from the PhDs. I don't get High School credit for that. In fact I don't even see High Schoolers there. I am in a full blown college course. I get real credit. And I am made to work with real college students. That is a far cry from a High School level lab thaught by profs, a glorified AP.

EDIT: Spelled their wrong. Hehe.

Homeschoolers get that "social life" as well. Working with people they don't like?! For example, down here there are several classes offered by the community colleges for the homeschooled people. They have to "work with people that are years smarter than you or behind you or just plain rude." just like any other person!! There is also a "school" that some homeschoolers go to 3 days a week, it's just like a reg. school, they have homework, group projects, grades, etc........!!

OH PLEASE!!!!!!! Show me the numbers!! It's been shown multiple times that people who go to school at home score better on their SATs!! As an example (not an SAT test, but similer....)When I was 7 I took a test that showed where I was accademicaly compared to the rest of the nation, I scored PHS (POST high-school) and that's compared to ALL students in the nation!!

I agree with you on that one, you go to school to learn how to learn. But, what does that have to do with homeschooling?

HOMESCHOOLERS get the SAME thing!! My sister did that as well!! And as to not seeing other high-schoolers, LOOK AROUND, they're there!!!!!!!

LOL! ~*AnCoRa33*~ I do look. I have found ONE in my many classes. No body takes them because teens here don't like challegences.

Yes and I went to a public school and so did all my friends and most of us got the PHS or what in 5th grade testing.

But moreover, what I said about he SAT holds true. Look at state scores for the tests in public schools. They are low. Why? Look at who goes to public schools and takes those tests. They are not only college bound students. In IL, FL, CO ALL high school students are REQUIRED to take the ACT. The IL, FL, CO ACT scorces are a mix of my 31, my friend's 34, my other friends 22, and the inner city schools, and the scores of dope heads and people who just don't try or care. But in say IA it is the mix of the students who took the test. Most of the kids who in IL do bad becuase they don't care or try would take the test if they were in IA, therefore on paper IA would be a smarter state.

Compere two like things. The public schools are not 100% kids who want to learn and try and care. Homeschooling isn't that either but it has a MUCH lower number. If the parents care the student tends to care. Therefore lets compere the number 42 to the number 42. College bound students from both.

1092 for 2002 for homeschoolers was the natl norm.
1260 was for 2002 the norm of students who went on to take an SAT:II (more likly to be seeking college prep crouse in HS)

daugher-of-Mary

I go to a Catholic HS (although the "Catholic" part is questionable  ). The academics are super, I've got some great friends, but I really, REALLY wish Faith was a priority. Having Mass 3 times a year just doesn't cut it. <_<

3 Masses during school hours. There is one Mass weekly, but since most kids commute to get to school it is pretty impossible to get there on time. Sorry, I should have clarified. Any other Catholic highschoolers out there? What are your experiences?
