PhuturePriest
So I'm leaving tomorrow. The tickets have been bought, but is there anything I need to do before I arrive at the airport tomorrow?
Nihil Obstat
Checking in the evening before will save you a bit of time in the morning. Triple check that nothing in your carry-on will slow you down at security. Have everything packed so that in the morning all you have to do us dress, brush your teeth, and walk out the door. Basically just do what you can to prevent surprises.
Lilllabettt
Bring an empty water bottle and fill it up at a fountain after you get through security. That way you don't have to shell out if you get thirsty. Don't wear a belt, watch, jacket, zip-up or button-up sweater, or jewelry if you can help it. (takes time in security) Do wear socks (you will be barefoot otherwise during security check) Wear slip on shoes (NOT flip-flops) if you have them. If you have time, run to the bathroom before you get on the plane. Take your bag inside the stall with you. Slightly malevolent tip: take more than one allegedly "carry-on" bag through security. The airline will check it for free once you're at the gate. The feds wont let you carry on more than one and at that point they're anxious to fit everything and everyone on the plane in a hurry and would rather not deal with the drama of arguing with you about charging for checking another bag. Same with oversize luggage.* *Please do not abuse this info and use it to check 6 bags for free or wheel a giant trunk down the terminal. If you do this they will get pissed and close this loop-hole and I will know it was you that caused it. I will be unhappy Miles. Safe travels, kid. Basilisa Marie
Check in before you get there. Print out two copies of your itinerary (with your confirmation number) and put one in your pocket and the other in your carry on. Or in two different bags. I do this because I'm prone to losing things. I'm also prone to leaving something behind, so making sure you're all packed and have everything all together the night before is a great idea. If you're checking bags, arrive at least an hour and a half before your flight takes off. Check on the monitors what gate your flight is leaving out of, because those aren't always printed on your ticket and if they are they're usually wrong. When going through security, you'll need your ID when they first check your ticket and then you can put it away. Don't put it in your pocket, it can mess with the scanner, put it back in your wallet and your wallet in the bin. Remove shoes, everything from your pockets, watches, and extra layers like light jackets. Skip wearing a belt. I've been okay without removing necklaces. Laptop goes in a bin by itself. Find your gate before you go get food or use the bathroom, and always lug all your junk with you. What do you need us for, you got this.

Same with oversize luggage.* Not the best advise, for several reasons. It's slightly malevolent. It's discourteous to other passengers who follow the rules and can't find enough space for their carry-on because other people bring more than they are allowed. If you get an airline employee in a bad mood you will end up having to leave your bag or pay the excess baggage fee and there will be nothing you can do about it. You can bring two bags on, but one of them has to be small enough to fit under the seat in front of you. If you must, just do that.
HopefulHeart
All of my suggestions have been made already, so I'll just say: relax. Give yourself plenty of time to pack tonight, after making a list of things you need to bring. Get a good night's sleep. Have some music to listen to on the plane. Focus on the tasks of this first day instead of the days ahead.

Nihil Obstat
I find flights to be an excellent place to catch up on reading. Or for handheld gaming.
PhuturePriest
I find flights to be an excellent place to catch up on reading. Or for handheld gaming. Yeah, I'm bringing no less than three books with me on the plane, not including my iPod which has several talks I can listen to, should I not be able to focus enough to read. HopefulHeart
My flight leaves today, so there is no resting tonight. Oops, I see! Also, in the Detroit airport, you might encounter this cool place, depending on what terminal and concourse you land in:
PhuturePriest
I am most displeased. I was originally scheduled to fly in a big plane, but due to the flight cancellation I am going to fly in an ERJ and an E75, which are the Priuses of the plane world. I hate small planes. Allow me to say that again with proper annotation: I. Hate. Small. Planes. I am not a happy panda right now.
Nihil Obstat
I like flying in those planes that have seats arranged two and one on either side. As long as I get the one.
Credo in Deum
Make sure to wear all of your jewelry and put a caulking gun in your checked bag. I would put on your best commando boots, laced up as tight as possible, with double knots. Have a nice Che shirt and make sure to tape your haircare products together so they don't move around in your bags.
