Not A Mallard
Terminator fans will either like it or despise it. I suppose it's a bit of both for me (but I'm not a huge fan of the franchise); the homages to the previous movies are fun, but the pacing is a bit rushed in places. I enjoyed the recasting, although Arnold feels more like a parody of the T-800. Overall, I think the franchise should stop here.
Not A Mallard
I kind of hope that this movie will flop because I would be content with this being a lazy attempt to tie up the franchise for good, not start it up again. At the same time, I'm interested in seeing where the franchise can go from here. I'm not sure about Jai Courtney as a replacement for Michael Biehn, but I buy Emilia Clarke as Sarah Connor, though she doesn't convey the depth of Linda Hamilton. Even if this movie isn't up to par with the first 1.5 (I don't care for the first half of T2), it has one of my favorite character moments out of the entire series - one where the characters are preparing for the next action scene, but at the same time they're able to relax and enjoy themselves, something that Sarah almost never got to do in the originals. Not A Mallard
And my slightly tongue-in-cheek (and very spoilerific) proposal on where to take the franchise.

I haven't seen any other of Emilia Clarke's work to compare this to (and based on what I know about Game of Thrones, I don't think I want to). Not A Mallard
Did you watch the serie Terminator ? I was a fan when I was in middle school. Yes, I did - everything except the Sarah Connor Chronicles (and I didn't even see all of the movies until this year). While I certainly wouldn't let my kids watch them if I had kids, I can see why they're such a popular franchise, with a memorable mythology and set of characters. (Peter T. Chattaway even points out the series's biblical allusions.) The first one (the best of the series) is excessive at times, but ultimately humanistic and pro-life. The second one can count as the last two chapters of a trilogy: a cynical first half with crassly stereotypical characters and a thoughtful second half with a much more human core, although it does mess up the timeline as well as the science behind the series. The third one is generally a goofy B-movie, and the fourth one is a post-apocalyptic (but superior to) Transformers with some great ideas that aren't fully utilized. Didacus
I think this latest one is better than the last two that came out. The first two were by the far the best, with a slight advantage to the first one. I never liked the 'liquid metal' idea and this latest one takes it way too far by applying it to John Conner - oh brothers. ya - I think they should cut their loses after this one and wait a good 10 - 30 years, at least, before picking up another movie for the Terminator series. My complaint about the T-1000 here is that... ...it's killed far too quickly. Sure, they actually know how to kill it this time around, but he and the first T-800 are the big bad guys of the first two movies, but here they're just henchmen, especially the T-800 whose turn from a limping animatronic to a springy CGI monster takes away his fright factor. Also, it would make sense that the same T-1000 from 1984 is the same T-1000 that killed Sarah's parents, so I wish they gave Sarah a clear grudge against it. Didacus
My complaint about the T-1000 here is that... Hidden Content Seriously - that's your objection about the T-1000s death... that it happens too quickly? Never mind that the movie-makers were clever enough to have Sarah Connor put on a gas mask to prevent her death from acid fumes, but do not do the same for Reece... Or the fact the trap is activated by shooting the ceiling (what kind of trap needs to be shot with a gun to activate?!) Or how about you count the real opportunities the T-1000 had to kill either Reece or Sarah or both until it died? How come the acid is strong enough to kill the T-1000 but won't even affect the slightest functionality of the T-800's hand as it holds the T-1000 in place? No splashing from the acid affect the T-800s face either. And how did they determine the amount of acid required to have enough pouring (resulting from gun shots to the ceiling) for the T-1000 to be in the acid, come out, go back and properly die while the down pour keeps gong all along. I love the spray freshener Sarah walks with to neutralize the acid too - that is some magical spray to neutralize acid that strong I tells ya - every home should have that miraculous freshener on hand and surely world peace will ensue. But never mind all that - the fact the that T-1000 dies too quickly... ya, that doesn't fit. That's the big issue. I agree with you. You're right. CINEMA SINS - look it up on Youtube.
