Guest
Because he's just in character?
Guest
I'm a fan of Colbert. Just wondering what people's thoughts are.
Guest
If he can say things like this in character and still be a good Catholic. And Mark Wahlberg can make the movies he does and still be a good Catholic. Then we shouldn't be so hard on rappers when they make explicit songs and still claim to be Christian right? Nihil Obstat
Is it not true that he was very in favour of the court decision?
Credo in Deum
Mark Walhburg and Steven Colbert have a responsibility to bring glory to God in their respective professions. They must excercise prudence when accepting or portraying characters, and the projects they take must show that their character, if they be doning or saying something anti-Catholic, is 1.) Wrong for doing such actions, and 2.) Such actions will have consequences. Secondly Colbert is misrepresenting the position of Christ and His Church. Christ was and is against sodomy. This action is prohibited, and this applies to everyone regardless of their sexuality. Therefore Christianity isn't at war with homosexuality, it's at war with sodomy. Lastly Mr. Colbert needs to brush up on his Bible and Cetechism since sodomy is mentioned in the New Testament by Christ's Church and therefore the teaching comes from Christ's own mouth. Romans 1:26 For this cause, God delivered them up to shameful affections. For their women have changed the natural use into that use which is against nature. 27 And, in like manner, the men also, leaving the natural use of the women, have burned in their lusts, one towards another: men with men, working that which is filthy and receiving in themselves the recompense which was due to their error. Luke: 10:16 He that heareth you heareth ME: and he that despiseth you despiseth ME: and he that despiseth ME despiseth HIM that sent ME.--Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Edited June 29, 2015 by Credo in Deum
dominicansoul
Jesus defined marriage though. That's the part most of these liberal clowns want to ignore...
KnightofChrist
All of Holy Scripture is the written word of God, therefor all of it is from God. When Saint Paul condemns sodomy that is from the Holy Spirit, who is one with Christ. Also as DS pointed out Christ made clear Marriage is the union of one man and one woman in Matthew 19:4-5. And we know how much "marriage = 1 man + 1 woman" has been mocked and rejected by the world in its defense of sodomy. "Have ye not read, that he who made man from the beginning, Made them male and female? And he said: For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife, and they two shall be in one flesh." - Jesus Christ
Luigi
Colbert thinks he has all the answers. He's dropping his pearls before us swine. We're ingrates if we don't pick them up. It's a standard arc that lots of show biz folks go through. Stop watching television. And if you can't stop, at least stop giving any credibility to anyone you see on it. Guest
I haven't owned a tv in over 5 years. Obviously I don't agree with Colberts statement although I know him and Wahlberg get a lot of props for being Catholic. Not that they shouldn't necessarily but yeah. And why the negative props? I wasn't agreeing with his statement.
Catlick
I can remember Colbert having an agnostic Bible scholar on his show. He basically cornered the guy by arguing that Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John did not offer conflicting third-hand accounts, but that they saw the 'different sides of the same elephant'. It gave me the impression that Colbert knows the Faith and can deal with the objections hurled at it.

Guest
Colbert was just playing a character right? Just like the rated R movies and HBO shows Mark produces. It's art. I used to be real critical of rappers. Now I'm not. I can't be supportive of these two Catholic guys and throw rappers under the bus for cursing and making explicit art. Ash Wednesday
Joke or not, the problem with the "Jesus didn't say anything about..." is that it's often used to imply that he didn't care about an issue or somehow approved of it. Anyway, I'm just going to leave this here. http://www.popsugar.com/celebrity/Stephen-Colbert-Supreme-Court-Gay-Marriage-Ruling-Video-37795049 I like Colbert as a comedian. But he strikes me as being pretty "Spirit of Vatican II" with his approach to his Catholic faith. You know, one of those "cool Catholics" who no doubt loves their faith, but dialogues with those friendly dissenting Jesuits at America Magazine and isn't out of touch like us meanie trads or so-called "Catholic fundamentalists" that obey all the teachings of the magesterium. Same with Wahlberg. I like him as an actor. But as he is a Catholic who supported Obama, I can't agree with that. Much like your friendly neighborhood parishioners, I'm sure both guys would be great to sit down with and have a bible study or faith discussion. It's nice to see that not all public figures have a hostile attitude towards their Catholic faith. I can draw a line and appreciate their acting or comedy, but I cannot agree with some of their viewpoints with regards to Catholicism. As far as being what I consider Catholics to most emulate, it's better to look to the saints. Edited July 1, 2015 by Ash Wednesday
