Hans Kung

Hello.
My father, who recently converted to Catholicism, has been researching his faith with a diligence that only a lawyer could muster. However, I sometimes worry about what he's reading. I've heard nasty things about Hans Kung, whose work my father has begun to read. I've also found some sedevacantilist literature in his possession. Now, while in some regards I am happy that he is looking more at the 'conservative' aspect of Catholicism, (disregarding Kung) I worry that he may pick something up that isn't exactly...good.
What is the deal with Kung, if indeed there is a deal, and what are some strategies for emphasizing fidelity to the Church and her teachings? Also, why exactly do the 'vacantes think there is no pope? (or feel that there is- Pius XIII has been elected out in Montana you know. White smoke and everything...) <_<

toledo_jesus,

If your father's a lawyer and wants to know more about his faith, have him read stuff by and about St. Thomas More, the patron of lawyers. ;)

Also, there's no ginger way to say it - the Church has officially said that Hans Kung is not a reliable teacher of theology. Instead of focusing on the bad, though, let's look at the good - instead of reading Kung, have him read cool people like Frank Sheed, Jordan Aumann, Cardinal Newman and Romano Guardini.

The Sedevacanists use all sorts of bum excuses to rationalize their belief that there is no Holy Father. The most common is the belief (based on no fact) that Pope John XXIII was a Freemason. But don't worry - he wasn't. He's legit, as well as Paul VI, John Paul I and John Paul II. Habemus Papam - we have a Pope. ;) Hope this helps.

Yours,
Pio Nono
