i have not included a section on the "Church of Christ" yet. if i did, it would be in the "Non-Catholic, Christian" entry.

if you would like, i can create a section on this denomination for you.

quick question: are there other names this church goes by? what is their official title? i'm sure many different denominations lable themselves as the "church of Christ." i want to make sure i grab the right info.

thanks,
phatcatholic

They are supposedly the New Testement church Christ founded (right? lol). But I wanted to get some info on their origin and other things of that nature. The take communion as a symbol.

Point 5,

In some of my older Catholic Bibles, it states "Church of Christ", it doesnt specifically state Catholic Church because everyone knew that the Church of Christ was and is the Catholic Church. I think many today though, use those words and make a new religion stating that it is in the bible. Since there are so many people who do not realize that it is one and the same Church, then these new "church of christ" religions have again, pulled the wool, so to speak.

Like I said, because many people approach religion without understanding Catholicism, they dont see the connection.

When the Holy Bible states "Church of Christ", it is stating the Catholic "Universal" Church. The name is one and the same.

Anyone stating NOW that they are a member of the Church of Christ must be a member of the Catholic Church. If they say they are not, then they are members of a church that borrowed the Catholic Church's name, and now distort it.

Peace.

I have the book, Handbook of Denominations in the United States, Tenth edition. It has two denominations with the name "Church of Christ".

Church of Christ (Holiness) U.S.A

A Baptist preacher in Alabama and Mississippi, C.P. Jones, seeking a new church and faith that would make him "one of wisdom's true sons...like Abraham, a friend of God," founded this church in 1894. Today it reports over 10,000 members in 170 churches. This body retained it's holiness emphasis when other early black churches moved into Pentecostalism.

Doctrinally, Church of Christ (Holiness) U.S.A. emphasizes original sin, the Holy Ghost as an indispensible gift for every believer, and Christs atonement and second comming. There are two sacraments: baptism and the Lord's Supper. Foot washing and divine healing are employed as aids to the growth of spiritual life.

Church of Christ (Scientist)

At Lynn, Massachusetts, in 1866, after reading the account of Christ's healing of a man with a form of palsy (Matt 9:1-8) Mary Baker Edy recovered almost instantly from a severe injury. Profoundly religious and a lifelong student of mental and spiritual causation, she came to attribute the cause to God and to regard God as the divine Mind as well as infinite Love. From these roots came the Christian Science and the Church of Christ, Scientist.

I did not quote the whole thing for both churches but I can if you want. There are so many denominations out there. The church that you are talking about is probably too young and too small to be put in the book yet.
