Budge
Is it still as strong anymore? When I was Catholic I met only one Charistmatic and she had to drive 200 miles to get to nearest Chrarismatic meeeting.

qfnol31
I support some things, don't understand others, and some I question. But then again, who am I to say that it's not real or good for the Church? BTW, I'm planning to post more.
P3chrmd
I completley support 100%....GO CHARISMATICS! Just like there are traditionalist who prefer everything in latin...there are folks who like a modern mass! Whatever gets you closer to Our Lord...as long as it dosen't go against church teaching...CATHOLIC IS CATHOLIC! Bruce S
Talking with friends who live in the town where the Catholic "Charismatic Movement" began, they tell me that it is almost invisible now. Talking with those good Catholics, they tell me that whenever a movement got going in a parish, the authorities would transfer the priest who was leading a movement to an old ethnic parish, where he could not get support and transferred into the Charismatic parish where the movement was strong, a priest who tried every way he could to end the Charismatic movement. They seem to think that the Catholic Church won't come out and say it has to be stopped, but their actions show that they are doing just that around here. The movement isn't something the Catholic Church around here wants, that comes out very clearly. Edited June 12, 2004 by Bruce S
Archaeology cat
As someone who is converting to Catholicism from a charismatic Methodist church, I love the charismatic movement. For me, it makes it a little easier for me to relate, and I love the charismatic Catholic Church I attend now, even though, by my old church's standards, it's far from being ultra charismatic. It seems this church has compromised, giving the parisheners some charismatic elements and some traditional elements, and I think it works. Mary's Knight, La
It depends on what you mean by charismatic renewal, if you're talking about an organized movement then i have my reservations because the experience i had was with an organization that wasn't very faithful by what they taught. I no longer remember the name entirely but it had renew or renewal in it. if you're talking about the fresh outpouring and use of the gifts of the Holy Spirit and charismatic worship then I fully agree it has its place in the church. however, it should never be viewed as replacing the charisms present in the traditional forms of worship and liturgy as they are part of the heart of the church
popestpiusx
post arguments
I would love to. But will they be deleted?
Hananiah
As I understand it, for the past several hundred years only the holiest of the saints have been given true spiritual gifts. But then in the 60s Catholics standed getting them en masse after learning from Pentecostals. Something is wrong here.
Bruce S
As I understand it, for the past several hundred years only the holiest of the saints have been given true spiritual gifts. But then in the 60s Catholics standed getting them en masse after learning from Pentecostals. Something is wrong here.
Certainly is. But not the answer that you might want it to be. As a Pentecostal, I have a certain interest in the history of the Catholic Church CM.
Pope Pius XI wrote many years ago that authentic Catholic Action is "the participation of the laity in the apostolate of the hierarchy." By that definition, most Catholics in today’s Church in America would not know where to begin or exactly how to undertake their Catholic Action. They do know that, first, they would have to penetrate layers of bureaucracy even to talk to, much less work with, their bishops
If the Bishop's can't control something, they want to stifle it. The Charismatic gifts are anthetical to bureacracies, and work AGAINST institutional denominational hide bound ways. The Holy Spirit isn't going to be CONFINED.
