Didacus
You may be unaware of this, but as it stands there are very few people with a Christian identity in the region to begin with. If the battle is organized around religious confession, the Christians will lose. That's why ISIS wants it to be organized around religious confession. that much more of a reason for chritsians to remove themselves from the region all together. They should submit to the majority rule of muslims; if they form a nation and want to be part of this nation, they should conform to expectations or move one. It's that simple.
Didacus
That's not what she's saying. And I think she's right - ISIS wants nothing more than to incite an all our war against Christians and the West, they think it'll only rally more people to their cause because (among other things) they can say "oh look see we're right the Christians and the West really do hate Islam and want to kill us and everything!" I sympathize with the idea of creating a Christian brigade, it can give people a nice feeling of hope and solidarity against a common enemy. But I don't think it's the most prudent decision. Isis has every right to profess their religious beliefs and defend them. That is correct - typically Christians and the west hate islam and should apologize for the atrocities they have committed in the past including the current 'war' on Isis which is unjustified. I am all for Christian unity, but if Christians, once again want to take up arms just to kill muslims, I am sorry but I cannot support this. Christians if anything should take example from muslims and live their lives and beliefs according to a peaceful doctrine.

I am a Christian and I in no way hate islam and have never committed any atrocities against anyone, no matter what their religion, and if the 'current war' against Isis is unjustified, why don't they stop killing innocent people? I think your over generalizations are offensive to say the least. Edit: - unless, am I wrong? Are you being sarcastic? I just can't believe what you are saying. If you 'got me' then I admit it, you 'got me'. But you aren't kidding, are you?
Ice_nine
he's being sarcastic. It's become tiresome. And I really don't like Islam (NOT muslims, just to be clear).
Selah
the clash of civilizations is something ISIS wants. Their ideology is based on the idea that an apocalyptic battle with Christians and other nonbelievers will usher in the caliphate. unwise to organize a military response around religious adherence. plays into their hands. Are they just supposed to sit back and let their country, their culture, their history, and their people, die? I am a pacifist by nature, but I cannot sit here and say "do not do this" to them. They need to defend themselves. They need to take back Iraq.
Nihil Obstat
Personally I think that the people closest to the situation are the best equipped to make these decisions on their own. It seems arrogant to think we know so much better.

It seems arrogant to think we know so much better. I have to agree with this. I can have my own ideas and opinions about what I might do if I were in such a situation but the reality is that I can't know for sure just what I would do because I am not experiencing what they are. That old Native American saying about walking in another person's moccasins applies here. How can any of us know for sure how we would react - it's all hypothetical for us. For them it is a constant and overwhelming reality. Nihil's right - we can't know better than they do - not from this distance.
Didacus
(snip) Nihil's right - we can't know better than they do - not from this distance. Seriously? I guess the US had no business taking part in WWII then?
AccountDeleted
I don't think we had much choice since Pearl Harbor was bombed, but there was a lot of debate before that about whether we should try to remain neutral. I wasn't around then so I won't second guess their decisions either. I think you just like to stir up trouble.

I did not say it was wrong, as in unethical, I said it was wrong, as in unwise. Dumb capital D. Dumb for them thats doing it, dumb for us thats going to be involved right quick. I don't see how ISIS gives them much of a choice. If they try to escape ISIS surrounds them and butchers them, if they stay peaceful ISIS butchers them.
