Mantillas

I'm on a search for a new mantilla, because my trusty one that had travelled the world with me got ignominiously nicked by some plonker last Summer (I don't think he was specifically after the mantilla, though - reassuring in some way).

It's cold here so I've been scarfed up whilst in church, but the filthy rumour going round is that Spring is coming, so I'm on the lookout.

(Yes yes I know we've had these threads before, but I can't see the search thingy on the boards anymore, so nur)

Mantillas. Where do you buy yours?

(In Europe, preferably. I mean God Bless Murica and all that, but if I can get one over here then so much the better)

These two companies are very good. I have only bought one from the Silver Hill's Treasures but I have heard very good things on Veils by Lilly. Plus she has a bigger selection. Hope this helps!

Oh! And you can find very unique veils if you do a search on Esty. There are some companies that will make you a personalized veil.

SSPX-chapels often sell mantillas. If you don't suffer from the pathological fear for Lefebvrians, that's the place to go to (in Europe).

Ik dacht het niet, gezien ik een paar keer bij hen voor de H. Mis geweest ben ;) Alleen nu ben ik niet (meer) in de buurt, dus dat is geen optie meer....

I've made a few of mine by buying some lace and hand sewing lace trim onto it. It was time consuming but so worth it. My current favorite is one that was given to me. it is a long almondine shape and it just stays on SO well.

I would like to get a black one through. Maybe for Good Friday...

The nice thing with making your own is that you can choose any shape or length... Sometimes the fabric store in my city has sale on lace so it was cheaper. The difficulty is sewing on the trim very neatly - especially if you dont regularly sew... If you ever make a veil I'd recommend soft dress lace so it drapes nicely :)

Spem in alium

I don't wear a veil too often (usually, only when I attend Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament). I was in the process of making my own (but got very sidetracked). My grandmother bought me one, which is very versatile and which I like, but unfortunately, when I moved to the convent, I forgot to bring it. :( We have a chapel on our property, which has daily Mass, and I've been quite surprised at how many women actually wear veils to Mass. In my country it seems to be very uncommon.

I keep thinking that it really can't be hard! I mean I've made my own clothes before and stuff, so how much of a challenge can a trimmed triangle of lace be?

And then the troll in my head pops up and sniggers, 'Famous last words....'

Thank you for the tip! I've an awful feeling I'm picky about what a type of lace feels like before wanting to work with it (weird that I'd just buy a ready made mantilla off the internet though), so I'm going to hunt out some fabric shops round here.
