The very recent, trendy reaction is the so-called 'lumbersexual'. (Metrosexual + lumberjack) I find the word kind of creepy and embarrassing to even say. (╯︵╰,) But such is life. Basically the trend this year was hipster-type guys who try to take on the lumberjack look. IMO it is basically just a shallow, 'ironic' macho-izing of the kind of effeminate look that you are describing.

What a strange trend! I've seen some guys in my area assume the "lumbersexual" look, though I never knew it had a name.

Then again, not all young men are going for the effeminate look. I'm reminded of this one guy in my literature class who came to school last week wearing a suit and a top hat for no apparent reason. He may even have been carrying a walking stick.

I would need to see the exact coloring of the suit to be sure -- but that sounds like a species of the  "hipster" family.

Hm, you're probably right. The suit was black, by the way.

Basically, as usual, we are still waiting and will be eternally disappointed in hoping for a more authentic masculinity

Now there was a good looking dude.

I dunno, there's a certain Bieber-esque quality to this photo

Hmm, it made my point better when it showed up in google images. No matter, I'm trolling anyway.

I just read about Blessed Giorgio Frassati. Wow, what a holy man. I'm glad you shared, Future Priest.

Just proof that everyone is manlier and better looking with facial hair.

I've been growing in a pretty nice beard for the past 2-3 weeks. I look 10x manlier, and I even look more attractive, for that matter.

Oremus Pro Invicem

I think manliness is determined by a mans actions and choices in life.

How's that for killing the buzz in a humorous thread!?

God bless.

I definitely agree. But there are characteristics and looks which are inherently masculine and vice-versa.

This version is even betterer because of the French subtitles!

As to top hats, unfortunately because of the subversion by the hipsters and whatnot (wearing it ironically), I can't really associated top hats with immediately being masculine.  They're made masculine by the men who wear them.

So many good looks ruined by hipsters and neckbeards. :(

Luckily they have not managed to ruin the morning suit yet.
