justfran
Okay, I have one thing to ask, for those who know/have gone through RCIA: What exactly do we not eat during the Period of Purification and Enlightenment? Please give me details on fasting...
justfran
And also, do I still have to fast for that period, even if Mum told me not to stuff like that? She gave me the example of my late grandma abstaining from beef because she was a devout Buddhist, so I think even *mentioning* fasting might give me a bit of an ear bashing. I got this after reading what the Catholic Encyclopaedia had to say on fasting:
Though this obligation is generally serious, not every infraction of the law is mortally sinful. Whenever transgressions of the law fail to do substantial violence to the law, venial sins are committed. Inability to keep the law of fasting and incompatibility of fasting with the duties of one's state in life suffice by their very nature, to extinguish the obligation because as often as the obligation of positive laws proves extremely burdensome or irksome the obligation is forthwith lifted. Hence, the sick, the infirm, convalescents, delicate women, persons sixty years old and over, ... wives whose fasting incurs their husband's indignation, children whose fasting arouses parent's wrath; in a word, all those who can not comply with the obligation of fasting without undergoing more than ordinary hardship are excused on account of their inability to fulfil the obligation.
Someone please explain this to me...so not being able to fast because my Mum told me not to is a venial sin or is it not? justfran
Okay I'm meeting up with the priest 11am tomorrow, he said there would be a bir of a problem with Holy Week or something - I think that depending on how quickly I pick things up, I might have to wait until next time... Ash Wednesday
Hey justfran, Just place all your trust in God. We don't "save" people by our own merits, rather we let God work through us. It is like a beautiful fire that spreads beside ourselves. I think heaven is such an amazing place beyond comprehension that our relationships with our families will become that of our extended family -- the communion of saints. To me, going to heaven would be like seeing dear family members, even though you never knew them on earth, they are as dear as your own you've known on earth. justfran
Okay just this arvo my mum started questioning me on why it was I wanted to go to Church. I told her it was to learn about God and she was going "Yeah, but can't you do that at home?" I told her that it wasn't comething that I could explain. Please, keep praying that my family will at least understand it's my faith and it's what I choose... And of course, pray they convert!!!

justfran
(what exactly is asking by recitation of the Rosary anyway?)
Philippe
it means to pray the rosary so if u petition for something and your prayer is the rosary, Mary promises to tell Jesus your petition and his answer may or may not be what you want to hear but He will answer you
justfran
Okay, I've been thinking about this a bit, and... *takes a deep breath* I'm considering waiting until I'm legally independent of my parents til I get baptised. I want to offer the wait up as a sacrafice, and since it'll be a bit under 4 years til I'm legally an adult, it'll show to myself and everyone else that I am serious about this, this isn't "just a phase". It'll be another petition to God for a change in heart of the people I love. I just don't feel that it's right to "sneak around" and get baptised right at this moment, and if I lose my faith as easily as I find it, then it'll be pretty pointless, wouldn't it? RemnantRules
well, faith is something that we practice, that's why we say we practice our faith! B/C just like everything else in life, if we don't practice we lose sight of why we are doing this. We can't stay Lukewarm, we must always strive to find the truth and dig in our faith, b/c as i have found out yes there will be glass ceilings, and road blocks but we must strive and conqure through them just as Jesus did for us. I would continue to pray about it and if you feel at peace with yourself and with God then i say do that! I'll pray for you though for sure! justfran
I think I would feel better if I do that, because I know that God is patient and caring. I want to do this as part of testing my faith. If my parents change their minds and let me get baptised earlier, then i'm all for it. If I went and got baptised right now behind their backs and they found out, they'd be more likely to think I'd been brainwashed and they'd back away from the faith. justfran
Or maybe it would be way best to wait until my parents allow me to get baptised, or allow me to make all my own decisions. I want to be fully honest at Baptism - no lies, no "leaving anything out". I want to be baptised and not feel bad about anything that I haven't told my parents. It just feels a lot better to me that way. I don't want to be dishonest to myself, nor my parents, and by far the biggest, I don't want to be dishonest to God. If I go and do it without permission, I'm scared I might be all three. We only get one Baptism, so I want mine to be as good as possible. I don't wanna lose faith, and I'm not gonna stop praying!
