I was just going to ask you that, Hasan; why not Hilary? I'm always curious to hear the reasoning behind a person's opinion or choice!

I'm very curious to see who the GOP candidate will be. All the names I've heard thus far are incredibly underwhelming, and some are outright ridiculous.

Indeed. Every liberally-inclined person I know loves her, so I'm quite intrigued.

The RNC convention is going to be here in Cleveland! Very excited to show off our resurgent city and hopping downtown to a national/global audience.

Let's be honest I'm probably going to either vote GOP or write in a name but I wish the Dems would nominate Elizabeth Warren to make it a harder decision.

Cleveland? Resurgent?

Also Winchester's strategy is clearly the best option presented thus far. Edited by Amppax

Yes Cleveland now has a really hot resturaunt scene among other things. Travel and Leisure put us on their list this year. There is a waiting list for apartments downtown and all the beautiful old buildings are finally getting rehabbed for new luxury apartments and Whole Foods type grocery stores. Not that I can afford to eat in any of the farm-to-table places but it's nice to see.

I bought a house in the suburbs so a little worrying that all the young people want to buy in the city now. But hey it's an inner ring suburb! lol.

It's spreading out to the neighborhoods also (Ohio City, University Circle etc) which is the big change from resurgances in the past.

Lots of liberals dislike Hillary Clinton. She's not part of the progressive base. She's a centrist.

For me personally, when I first moved to DC I interned for a woman who was part of the Clinton machine. I like her very much but the Clintons are the very epitome of corporatism wrapped up in the sanctimony of contemporary Democratic politics.

If you want real specifics I'd be happy to go into them but that's broadly my problem with her. I'd rather Romney get into office than see the Clinton's slither their way back in. That's why I wouldn't do a protest vote for some third party. I like in a swing state. If Hillary clinton gets the nomination I'll very possibly go volunteer and vote for the Republican candidate.

Although, given the rot in the current Republican party it's completely possible that the Republicans will snatch defeat from the jaws of victory by nominating some charlatan like Huckabee or some sleezeball like Santorum.

Nominate a Scott Walker or a Mitt Romney or a Rand Paul and I'll do my part to get them elected.

I'd be happy with Rand Paul, but no one is talking about him for 2016, it seems. Scott Walker, I'd be happy with him, too. Mitt Romney, NOPE nope nope. Been there, done that, have bumper sticker adhesive residue stuck to my car from peeling it off very, very quickly.

I'll probably vote for rand paul even tho he's not as cool as his dad. Next best thing I guess.

Maggie, why do you like Warren? I live in MA and I can't stand her, but I can't stand most politicians so it's not a huge knock against her.

What do you think about the Boston olympics? They better call ol' Mitt in, I don't think it's ever going to happen.

Who are you nerds voting for?

Looks like Hillary is going to get it on the Democrat side. Which is sad because I will never vote for Hillary Clinton. In fact, if Clinton gets the nomination, I'll seriously consider voting for a Republican. I can't bring myself to vote for a Bush but I'd possibly vote for Rand Paul or Romney or Walker.

I would say voting doesn't matter, but for some reason it still is some what affective, but when the options are between bad and worse, I tend to stick to just voting for bad.

I really don't think it will matter who is in office. I think changes will be marginal unless you get a real extremist in there, and none of those three are. Rand is the least fascist of the three, but I don't know what to believe from him. He's on record telling evangelicals that he has no intention of ending the drug war (something no one can defend using the constitution as ratified, something he's claimed to support in the past). There's no way I will ever vote for someone who supports that crap, even if he said it to a bunch of whackjobs just to shut them up.

I believe Obama is anti-war. I believe if he really operated with the power attributed to the president, that the US would be decreasing its military presence, and reducing its belligerence. I think Gitmo would be closed, too. I don't think it's because he has the first idea of the limits of the federal government under the constitution, but because he has chosen positions on those issues. I think presidents are given a few choices, and sometimes denied choice altogether.
