Ive also been to homilies dedicated to the inter workings of the parish and ways to volunteer.

I think in this case it boils down to being inappropriate if it doesnt align with your opinions of kosher. :idontknow:

I disagree. It must align with the nature of pastoral obligations (in the case of the homily), and authenticity and faithfulness to the objective and continuous tradition of the Roman rite.

From the GIRM:

Reading and Explaining the Word of God

29. When the Sacred Scriptures are read in the Church, God himself speaks to his people, and Christ, present in his word, proclaims the Gospel.

Therefore, the readings from the Word of God are to be listened to reverently by everyone, for they are an element of the greatest importance in the Liturgy. Although in the readings from Sacred Scripture the Word of God is addressed to all people of whatever era and is understandable to them, a fuller understanding and a greater efficaciousness of the word is nevertheless fostered by a living commentary on the word, that is, by the Homily, as part of the liturgical action.

The Homily

65. The Homily is part of the Liturgy and is highly recommended, for it is necessary for the nurturing of the Christian life. It should be an explanation of some aspect of the readings from Sacred Scripture or of another text from the Ordinary or the Proper of the Mass of the day and should take into account both the mystery being celebrated and the particular needs of
the listeners.

66. The Homily should ordinarily be given by the Priest Celebrant himself or be entrusted by him to a concelebrating Priest, or from time to time and, if appropriate, to the Deacon, but never to a lay person. In particular cases and for a just cause, the Homily may even be given by a Bishop or a Priest who is present at the celebration but cannot concelebrate.

On Sundays and Holydays of Obligation there is to be a Homily at every Mass that is celebrated with the people attending, and it may not be omitted without a grave reason. On other days it is recommended, especially on the weekdays of Advent, Lent, and Easter Time, as well as on other festive days and occasions when the people come to church in greater numbers.

It is appropriate for a brief period of silence to be observed after
the Homily.

I thought of another question for you: How long is such a letter, typically, and how often are they published?

My pastor writes a 1 page letter every week. It varies in content, but he's used it before to ask parishioners to pray for his family or to make announcements. Or to comment on things going on in the world, like praying after a disaster or similar situation. Edited by Amppax

That's pretty intense. When we get a letter from the pastor, we know it's important or that he's pretty serious about it. Unfortunately, I know that some of those letters were written by a parishioner (for whom I have a lesser opinion) and then simply signed by our pastor.

I guess I was wondering if the subject could be covered in the length of the document on average, and if it would be an effective way of communicating with the members of the parish. I suppose it could be a series of letters over the period of a few weeks...

I have looked around recently for any comments by the Archdiocese associated with Fr. Martin Dolan, and it comes up nothing, like it never happened, and in the articles mentioning the story it does say that there is no comment from either the archdiocese or Fr.Dolan,

so bloop just like that, make a comment, and it gets swept under the rug and we move on to the next thing that the ball bounces on.

Why would the Archdiocese find it better to not comment on such a public statement than to at least make a comment that this Priest was only speaking of his own opinion at the minimum.

just curious as to any ideas.

Maybe that's not a bad way to handle it? I think giving people media attention can be a bad thing and give fuel to the fire if they have bad intentions.

on every forum I've ever been a part of people have referred to me as a he, repeatedly, even after clarifying.

I feel your pain. A female avatar has helped.

It helps tremendously. Even though, for years, I had Mary as my avatar and people still assumed I was male. Once I was old enough to make the decision about putting my face out there, I considered doing so. I don't think I actually put my face as my avatar on the phorums until last year, though. (IcePrincessKRS would know. She remembers everything I forget.)
