Ice_nine
isn't it funny how when we buy things for charity we get all savvy about where the money is going but we probably buy from corporations who do terrible things to people, animals and the environment every day. Only maybe some of you are better about this because you're better people than I am.

If you give to a charity you're getting the promise that the money will be used in a way you approve of. I think people would have a similar degree of scrutiny if we had a system where, for example, family members shopped for each other's food and therefore had to ensure that Walmart actually delivered the products they purchased. Ash Wednesday
Hasan makes very good points about researching the charities we give to. I have been approached by a number of charities here in the UK only to find out that while they do aid the disadvantaged, poor or infirm, some also fund "family planning" -- including access to abortion or abortifacients -- that I just cannot support. I like to support the CNEWA (Catholic Near East Welfare Association) -- they are an agency of the Holy See and provide aid to Christians in the middle east as well. You can also sponsor a child or a seminarian. Didn't see one of those cool shirts, though.
