PhuturePriest
For realz. Just joking. But really. What are your thoughts on this article? http://time.com/3222543/5-feminist-myths-that-will-not-die/
Basilisa Marie
Half her sources lead nowhere, or nowhere that we can actually verify her claims, and she steals her title from the article she cites from the Atlantic. Ultimately her fact-checking is okay, but she's setting it up to attack straw-man feminism. The way she leaves her argument makes it really easy to say that none of these issues are as big as "feminists" would make them out to be, or ultimately aren't as important. Plus I disagree with her claims about an "overly broad" definition of sexual assault. Forced kissing IS assault, and alcohol plays a huge role in sexual assault. She takes some almost-thoughtful debunking of myths and turns it into some cruddy inflammatory clickbait.

The lesson to take from the better articles she is citing is that most activists of all political stripes have at best a tentative relationship with intellectual integrity. This isn't a problem that just belongs to feminism. It's just a market with incentives that encourage constant one-upsmanship and discourages critical thinking. People who question the most gung-ho vanguards of the movement are determined to be insufficiently pure of motives and victims of some variant of false-consciousness. You have various intellectual figureheads who are incentivized to be liberal with interpretations of empirical data and activists, who generally live in an echo chamber and who enjoy having their worldview continually reaffirmed, have little incentive to demand analytical rigor. Regarding sexual assault, I think Emily Yoffe and Megan Mcardle have written good articles on the tension tht currently exists within attempts to address college rape: http://www.bloombergview.com/articles/2014-12-09/you-cant-just-accuse-people-of-rape http://www.slate.com/articles/double_x/doublex/2014/12/college_rape_campus_sexual_assault_is_a_serious_problem_but_the_efforts.html
