A Joke: On Their Way To Get Married, A Young Catholic Couple...

The couple find themselves sitting outside the Pearly Gates waiting for St. Peter to process them into Heaven. While waiting, they begin to wonder: Could they possibly get married in Heaven? When St. Peter showed up, they asked him.

St. Peter said, ‘I don’t know. This is the first time anyone has asked. Let me go find out,’ and he leaves.

The couple sat and waited, and waited. Two months passed and the couple are still waiting. While waiting, they began to wonder what would happen if it didn’t work out; could you get a divorce in heaven. After yet another month, St. Peter finally returns, looking somewhat bedraggled.

‘Yes,’ he informs the couple, ‘you can get married in Heaven.’

‘Great!’ said the couple, ‘But we were just wondering, what if things don’t work out? Could we also get a divorce in Heaven?’

St. Peter, red-faced with anger, slammed his clipboard onto the ground. ‘What’s wrong?’ asked the frightened couple.

‘OH, COME ON!’, St. Peter shouted, ‘It took me three months to find a priest up here! Do you have any idea how long it’ll take me to find a lawyer?

Not only are at least half the Saints male, but most of them are priests, bishops, and popes.

Lol what gives you that idea? :)

It's a lawyer joke.  The real St. Peter would have responded with; 'There is no need to worry about being married in Heaven since, 'For when they shall rise again from the dead, they shall neither marry, nor be married, but are as the angels in heaven."--Mark 12:25

You've just been Gospeled.

Women are kind of behind in the game. Particularly from the Early Church to the Medieval age, female Saints weren't nearly as recognized as male ones. This is probably due in part to sexism and cultural norms, but also because clergy are in the public eye and more easily recognizable, which is why there aren't as many lay Saints. Which one is more recognizable: A bishop, or some layman/laywoman? One of the most famous lay Saints (If not the most famous) is Saint Thomas More, and he was a public official and martyr during a huge moment of history. Lay people are harder to remember and recognize. It's simply how it goes.

"And one of the lawyers answering, saith to him: Master, in saying these things, thou reproachest us also. But Jesus said: Woe to you lawyers also, because you load men with burdens which they cannot bear, and you yourselves touch not the packs with one of your fingers." (Luke 11:46)

No one in heaven isn't a Saint. You can't be in heaven and not be a Saint. However, that doesn't mean you are a canonized Saint. There is a distinction. We can assume that the large majority of Saints in heaven are not canonized, or at least we hope so, as there are only about 20,000 canonized Saints. :|

Marriage is part of the natural law and part of God's command to be fruitful and multiply while on earth.  While procreation is not the only thing marriage is for, it is a key part, and one which is pointless when you're dead and in Heaven.

I would say otherwise mary and joseph were married yet were both chaste. I don't think I they thought their marriage was pointless.
