Want2beChrist'sBride
Hey! I saw three of them at the Franciscan University summer conferences! They were lovely! :like3: Do they ever talk about opening a US house? No i don't think so. They are still small with 6 sisters and also there is such a mission field here in Australia. But God willing they will get more vocations and give it a few decades.
HollyDolly
There is also the Mission Sisters of the Holy Spirit and the Sisters,Home Visitors of Mary. Both are small communities. They can be found in the Guide to Catholic Sisterhoods in the United States by Rev.Thomas P.McCarthy and the book Convent Life by Joan Lexacu .Both communities have been around a long time. Also there is the Rural Parish Workers of Christ the King in Missouri. They are a secular institute that is in the book Convent Life. The Sisters of the Holy Spirit and Mary Immaculate of San Antonio work in parishes as do the Missionary Catechists of Divine Providence also of San ANtonio. krissylou
there's a new Maronite Rite community, Maronite Sisters of Christ the Light. They're teensy and quite quite new (founded in 2008 and now have the foundress in perpetual vows, one sister in temporary vows and one postie. (They are in good standing with the relevant (Maronite) bishop.) http://radiatehislight.blogspot.com/ The foundress was a Parish Visitor for many years before founding a Maronite rite congregation. I think they're the first Maronite sisters, or the first in the US, or something along those lines.
emma8201986
One question I have always had about this type of apostolate is how these sisters support themselves. Clearly, sisters who run schools and hospitals charge students and patients and can support their work in this way but how do the Parish Visitors and other similar communities pay the bills? Missionary Sisters of St. Benedict http://missionarysisosb.org I have to give this props for two reasons: 1. What a thoroughly researched answer for the OP 2. You posted a community that is very close to me that provides individual spiritual direction (which is exactly what I need right now) Thanks!
