Benedictus
I don't see much going on aside from a drawing together of people who think the same thing, by and large. I see few, if any, religious voices here of people who disagree in some way with the subtext agenda of the meeting. Not much active dialogue, well not any that could ruffle the feathers and be difficult, but instead a pooling of people who'll probably relish singing from the same hymn sheet. Lots of voices not included, but some minority factions instead. Disappointing, but not totally unexpected.
LouisvilleFan
Sounds like a good idea to me. The challenges we are facing are not unique to Catholicism or Western culture, so why not engage all faiths who support marriage? It looks like their goal is to change the tone of conversation and learn how to express what we support in a language the world might hear. I'm surprised to see that it's announced on such short notice. The speakers and attendees must have known about this for a year or more, yet they just made the public announcement a couple weeks prior to the event. Gabriela
I wonder if the announcement was made strategically, following on the controversy of the synod. I think it's a good thing to gather with those of like minds. It's not necessary—or good—to be always engaging "the other side". Sometimes we need to refuel through fellowship with those who support us. Edited November 5, 2014 by curiousing
Basilisa Marie
IMHO, the Church is in desperate need of some work done on gender theology. We have a couple of good documents, but they just scratch the surface. Plus I really believe the key to getting an awesome defense of the male priesthood (besides "we've always done it this way" or "jesus chose men for apostles") is going to be found in crafting a really solid theology of the complementarity of men and women. Hopefully we'll get some good stuff out of this. :)
LouisvilleFan
Definitely. I completely agree with the Church's conclusions about these matters, but not because I find most of the arguments compelling -- at all. This is where further developing Theology of the Body could bear some real fruit beyond getting a few married couples to drop the pill.
