Aloysius
ALSO: we are not going to settle for "the very least" this is to be a small Catholic Kingdom contrary to the workings of the world. never settle for anything less than the HIGHEST ideals. crusader1234
Lol, if you shoot for the moon, youll end up in the stars... hahaha anyways, i think that the nova scotian ones, although less romanticized as far as utopias go, are the way to go. the 1000 acres of forest could be used for timber, and also could be subdivided and sold as vacation lots. this would also be a good place to have bed and breakfasts and other touristy things... tap itno the local economy without hurting the island. crusader1234
And HST is the property sales tax. that means multiply the price by 1.

Thy Geekdom Come
That's a neat island, but it's kind of far north... I'd prefer to keep it either near an English speaking nation or in Europe. Otherwise, I would get confused too easily. A Catholic nation in the Philippines would be too great a terrorist target. That place in the Great Lakes would be neat, but it's kinda small... Hmmm... This place would be kinda cool, but it's small and expensive: http://www.vladi-private-islands.de/sales_..._stefano_1.html This place is neat: http://www.vladi-private-islands.de/sales_...athanasios.html
crusader1234
Those are both neat ideas, but not exactly realistic. While the Second one is affordable, its too small to support even a city state. 2.6 acres is like the size of a football stadium.
Thy Geekdom Come
Bah! Let's just build an island like the Japanese did with their airport!

Thy Geekdom Come
Okay...well, how about I just build my own militia and we storm a third world country? Sudan? The Catholics there could use some help.
crusader1234
I dont see why Aloysius is so Adamant about having his own country. We could always just be like the Hudderites.
Thy Geekdom Come
But having your own plot of land with your own constitution makes it...well...so much more official. Oh, we'll need a flag, too!
Mickey's_Girl
At the very least, this would be a great resort for us Phatmassers. I'd buy a cottage there. Truth be told, I think the best options are 1) Turners Island 2) Psyche Island 3) Marrs Island 4) Frechette Island All of these are over 100 acres, so they could support farming, and they are all under 1 million Canadian dollars. They are all off of the Nova Scotian coast. If we want to get extravagant, the best deal would be something like Bock Cay or Kaikoura island. I think the most important thing here would be remembering that if you are making a country, you'd need to support the people so it would need to be big enough for a farm. I think the biggest potential money maker would be tourism. And unless it's against Church laws, I actually think that growing marijiana would be a quick way to pay off the island.
Trust you, Crusader1234, to get immediately practical. I think Aloysius definitely needs you on his team! (Royal advisor?) And yeah, I noticed that you said Nova Scotia. NS RULES! But won't it be kind of cold? Will people accept that? (Nova Scotia, woo-hoo! Where's our Canadian smiley when we need it? Of course, we could get one with a hockey stick...) crusader1234
Haha, I knew you'd like that - and the fact that at the beginning we'd all need Canadian citizenship would rub you the right way now wouldnt it? As for NS, it wouldnt be too cold because it is a Maritime province. Theres also lots of fish there.
