PhuturePriest
Did you just say that acoustic guitars are not capable of playing rock music? Now I am offended. Not hard rock or metal. I have never made an acoustic guitar sound like this naturally, and it wasn't for lack of trying: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wbUcJRFo3i0 (Fun fact: That's a pro-life, anti-war song) Edited October 22, 2014 by FuturePacker

Nihil Obstat
Soft rock. That would be a bit anachronistic. More like rock and roll.
PhuturePriest
That would be a bit anachronistic. More like rock and roll. Whatever it is, it doesn't sound very good. It needs a lot more distortion, not to mention cowbell.
Slappo
Slappo, did you mean siesta? I'm having a hard time believing that the Carmel had a daily fiesta. Err... yes fiesta with an S at the beginning.... *siesta.

Obviously, your ears are not yet fully developed. It's partly your age and partly lack of experience/exposure to various genres of music. Experience takes time, and doesn't mean simply listening to a particular artist once or twice. Sometimes it takes a LONG time. I was easily old enough to be your mother before I truly appreciated Bob Dylan, despite the fact that one of his songs was sung in place of a valedictory address at my high school graduation. In some areas I am "gifted," in others I am a slow learner. Based on that, I'll ask you in 20 or 30 years what you think. In the meantime, don't quickly dismiss music that you aren't familiar with. For example, to call (the late) Roy Orbison "soft rock" is not only incorrect but downright heretical. He's a legend.

Nihil Obstat
I find it very difficult to characterize Gregorian chant as "soft". It is very strong, very purposeful music. "Soft" is not the same as "no distorted guitars".
Nihil Obstat
For instance this song is not 'soft' in any sense of the word, but there is no amplification, certainly no distortion. http://youtu.be/a-CnWwbeetE Edited October 22, 2014 by Nihil Obstat
Nihil Obstat
Gogol Bordello is considered "gypsy punk" and makes extensive use of acoustic instruments. http://youtu.be/SkkIwO_X4i4

"Soft" is not the same as "no distorted guitars". I like powerful music. This is my favorite classical-esque song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BybTNK9HwWE There are some soft songs I like, but I prefer powerful music that inspires passion and drive in a person.
