Who else has been through the graduation process and thinks of it as nothing more than an over exaggerated awards ceremony just to get a stinking piece of paper that says you passed so many classes and wear a funny looking robe? :graduate: :gradtalk:

Congrats! Our band plays at graduation, but our school keeps it pretty short. Last year it was boring, but this year it was only like 45 minutes long! All they had was three class speakers, and they graduated!

Both my high school and college graduations were 1h45m long. High school graduation was good and was worth it. At my college graduation, only the Ph. D. students got their names called out and everyone else got to get an empty diploma case.

In the UK you only get to call yourself a graduate if you have a degree from a recognised university - we would never say someone has graduated from high school. Although high schools may have certificate giving ceremonies, they don't wear gowns and hats (academic dress) since this is reserved for graduates and postgraduate students. Graduation ceremony really is a special ocassion for people as they have struggled through their university education, including having to deal with coping with all the financial implications this involves!
It's incredibly moving to see young people formally receive their degrees.....

Thy Geekdom Come

I took my laptop to my little brother's graduation. That made it much less boring.

Ash Wednesday

I really didn't like my high school graduation because I felt like it was forced "feel goody, our class will be friends forever" kind of deal, when I knew this wasn't the case.

You know, like the friend who says "I'll call you, we have to write each other" but really doesn't mean it.

My college one was kinda fun, because my friends and I treated it a bit like a big joke, and there wasn't that false sentimentality.

My high school graduation was a joke from the beginning-- starting with the bonfire bound disposable gowns, to the "tell your mom and dad to bring lawn chairs because we don't want to use the stadium" to the handing out of helium balloons to try to keep us from tossing our caps... what a mess... at least the weather was nice.

... by the time I graduated from college, I was happy to get out of there and move on to "real life"...

That is almost exactly how I felt about graduation from HS and College.
