Amppax
Does anyone know of a story of St. John Paul II going to confession to a priest who had gone astray and the Holy Father inviting him to the Vatican? I was asked this question earlier, and I figured I'd run it through the old PM fact check, and see if anyone had heard the story.
Amppax
Also, how in the heck do you get things to stay capitalized in a post title?
PhuturePriest
Never heard of that particular one, but if you want a book full of great and unknown stories, go for "Saint John Paul the Great: His Five Loves" by Jason Evert. You can buy a whole box of them for $2.
PhuturePriest
Also, how in the heck do you get things to stay capitalized in a post title? Only the first thing you type in a word will be capitalized. That for something like "John Paul II", the second 'I' won't be capitalized. It also means if you put a quotation mark first, the letter proceeding it won't be capitalized, and it will write like "saint John Paul" rather than "Saint John Paul". 'Tis the scourge of the grammar Nazi, and I wish Dust would fix it, but there are more important things. CatherineM
I was told lots of interesting stories about him by my old bishop. He was Lithuanian and the two of them had been among the youngest bishops at Vatican II. He said they had been stuck together at the synod's version of the kid's table. Ash Wednesday
Aww I was hoping this was the chance to tell the story that when I went to World Youth Day, my future husband held me up so I could see him in the popemobile, and even though I only saw the top of his head it was still adorable. Never mind.
Not A Mallard
I was hoping this was a chance to tell the story of how Pope John Paul II said grace before eating lunch.

Ash Wednesday
I played poker during WYD in Denver. While the Pope was speaking. I remember I had to go to a family reunion in Colorado that same time and I was kind of ticked off at my dad about that. Especially when my friends came back with all of these ~*spiritual experiences*~ Fast forward to 10 years later when I went to the one in Toronto I was so tired I left before the papal mass, soaking wet, couldn't deal with the crowds anymore, crawled home to my host family and went to bed. I was too tired to appreciate it and just went to mass at a church that evening. :winner: I did go to see Benedict XVI in London and the back of my head ended up on the front page of the BBC website. God and his sense of humor. LOLOLOL

The person who told that one witnessed it personally- I believe it is someone from Catholic Answers? Well, I know someone who knows the person who saw it and yes, it did happen. (I know, I know, the old "I know someone who knows someone" story but it did happen :P )
