Slappo
Because through both personal experience and sources, I have been forced to conclude everyone from the University of Dallas is a snobby ass hat, and I wouldn't go there if I got a free ride. :| Also, I don't want to go into engineering. I couldn't even if I wanted to, which I don't. I've given you a warning. Same thing. Maybe another one is in order. Maybe the first one didn't quite sink in enough for him to think of it as having met you :|. Even if not quite a personal attack, it's pretty close to if not over that winnie line. Ash Wednesday
Ok, let me wade into this debate of Catholic colleges. I'm going to just say this loud and clear: Avoid debt as much as possible, and be sure you have a way of paying it off. Love one another. Last, but not least: AVOID AS MUCH DEBT AS POSSIBLE. Unfortunately, unless I get a 35 the next time I take the ACTs in December, I will not be getting a free ride, and will thus get substantial debt in the tens of thousands. It's the nature of the beast, unfortunately.
blazeingstar
Are you sure that had anything to do with them being from UD? Exactly. I've heard "stupidville" many times before, and it had nothing to do with UD, more to do with the blind worship people seem to have of that school. Franciscan's only flaw is the inordinate amount of students there who smoke. I hate smoke with all my being. A moment's whiff of cigarette smoke makes me have a whopping headache, not to mention the fact it smells worse than death. If UD students can call Franciscan Stupidville and get away with it, I can call UD snobby and get away with it. It's only fair.

It's the nature of the beast, unfortunately. I'd love to hear you call into Dave Ramsey and give him that line (even though I disagree with him on some points, when it comes to debt, I love hearing him shred apart such ridiculous "logic" as what you are presenting yourself). Sounds like your mind is made up about Benedictine, so I'm not sure what was the purpose of asking us about the FAFSA application. You're determined to pile up tens of thousands in debt and pray to God it works out... somehow. And you're clearly not comparing your options honestly. You tell us you have excellent grades and always excel, yet you're giving yourself the choice of two colleges that have no real admission standards. Way to go. What kind of career do you have in mind? What degree are you planning to earn? Who offers that degree and what the pros and cons among them? Think about those kinds of questions, and look into this decision a bit more before writing off the next 15 years of your life. Nihil Obstat
The thing about student loans is that they can be good or bad debt, mostly dependent on whether or not that debt will bring you a certain rate of return over and above your interest payments. I do know people who took on a lot of debt for a degree from a Catholic college who will never see a return on that investment.
truthfinder
Depending on what you want to do, going to secular colleges/universities can definitely work. I started out at universities in my home town, and between that, scholarships, and working, I finished on time, and with a little money in the bank. I'm well into grad school now, and thankfully no real debt. I still have several years left until anyone calls me doctor, but if I pick up any debt it won't be too much. My degree will be from a well-known university but in a subject I love. I really can't beat getting paid to talk to my students about the Church. Further, since they think it's coming from a secular perspective they may actually be a little more receptive to what I'm teaching. Be wise about your debt. I never thought I would be doing the work I'm doing now, and if I had debt right in undergrad I wouldn't have gone on to grad school. I know many people saddled with debt, including some really good professors who may have made choices that were on the more idealistic and expensive side. Weigh the pros and cons.
