homeschoolmom
My family and two other families go on a camping trip each summer. It's supposed to be this weekend. We are going to the North Shore of Lake Superior, so it gets cold at night. We're car camping... no portaging or anthing... The thing is, HSbaby! He's crawling and into everything. Also, he doesn't sleep well at night as it is, not sure how he'd do in a tent. On the other hand, I really want to go. This will be the first time we've gotten together socially as a group since we converted at Easter Vigil and I am sure that there will be late night campfire conversation regarding that... on the other hand, it's supposed to rain some, too. If I stay home, I'd have the house to myself (well, with the baby)... I could even visit another parish if I want to... can't decide... We leave tomorrow. (HSDad and the other kids are going-- regardless) ???
mom25angels
Well, seeing as I'm a horrible camper, I say stay home, watch movies, eat brownies and enjoy some quiet time with hsbaby. That's just my opinion though. We used to camp all the time when I was a kid.....we had a starcraft camper, a coleman stove and a portapotty. My dh informs me that it's not real camping and I suppose he's right. You couldn't pay me to tent camp. Which ever you decide.....have a super weekend
SignOfTheCross
Stay home homeschoolmom, you don't want to get any bugs now do you lol?
Sojourner
I think you should go. HS Baby will be fine; your other kids can be commissioned to help out on occasion with keeping an eye on him. Personally, I think the important thing here is the relationships with the other families you'll be camping with ... I think that's worth a little discomfort and some bugs. IMHO. St. Catherine
I think you should go. I love camping. I took my baby to Yellowstone last summer and everything went great.
homeschoolmom
Oh, great! 2 for, 2 against... I probably won't decide until it's time to get in the van...
Carrie
A house to yourself and HSbaby! I would stay home, relax, and enjoy one on one time with the baby.

BeenaBobba
Go! Although we don't go camping anymore, my family used to go several times a year when I was growing up. It's so much fun, and I've got tons of great memories from camping. I don't think HSbaby would be too much of a problem. Sometimes, people who came camping with us would bring their little ones. You'd have to keep a watchful eye on him, but you could have your kids help out as well. You could bring his stroller and take him for nice walks, and usually campgrounds have playgrounds, so you could take him there as well. I think you and your family would have tons of fun (and great conversations sitting by the fire), so you should totally go! homeschoolmom
My biggest concern is that it is going to blasted cold up there (10 degrees tonight!) I don't want him to get sick cuz his dopey mom had to go camping. Usually, I go with "dumb" over "cautious"... I haven't even started packing yet-- doh! Colleen
You should go. It would be fun. We've gone camping with little babies, too, and it's been great. If you keep an eye on him, it should be all right. Also, like BeenaBobba said, he'll probably be fine if you keep him bundled up. It's much easier to take a little baby camping then it is to take our dog camping, I'll tell you that! But it's up to you.
homeschoolmom
I think the Lord is saying (through the van's breaks): "Doooooooon't Goooooooo!" We need to take the van in tomorrow and see if they can fix 'em. They could maybe go in HSDad's car but I'd be trapped without a car and I couldn't go to mass at all. crusader1234
I'm from Winnipeg. All you wildernessphobes be quiet. This seems like a nice weekend where you cold talk to your friends about your faith, and have fun. At night it would be warm (5 or so bodies all right next to eachother in sleeping bags DOES NOT GET COLD) and I think you'd enjoy it. And just so you know, the Van breaks could also be the devil trying to get you to stay home!!!
