Didacus
This document dares to say that Christianity is more peaceful than islam. What gull! And its linked to Christian Answers too! Read this little snipet: Christianity, by contrast, is a universal religion, meant for all peoples in all countries. It has much greater breadth, and much lower intrinsic potential for violence. Its founder - Christ - was a martyr, who refused to fight to save his life. Thought the new Testament acknowledges that the old Testament revelation is from God, it does not contain new commands to use violence, as Christianity was not to be allied from its birth to a state in the way Judaism was. the fact that in Christianityu church and state are distinct means that as a religion Christianity has less potential for violence since it is not called upon to use force in the way a state is. this, coupled with Jesus' own example and his "love thy enemy" teachings (e.g. matt. 5:44), gives Christianity less inaate potential for violence." Link: http://www.catholic.com/documents/endless-jihad-the-truth-about-islam-and-violence the document goes on to describe Mohammed as a warlord - obviously, Jesus was every bit as much of a warlord as Mohammed. Worse even! We can`t deny the violence perpetrated by Jesus, any more than we cannot deny the purely peaceful nature of Mohammed. I think we should all come together and criticize this site for blatant islamophobic remarks, as well as bigotry. We should ask that they apologize to the Islamic world for their disregard to a purely peaceful religion and people who have never, ever, ever, done anything wrong to their neighbors and only ask to live in peace. We should also note that they should apologize for the centuries of Christian oppression and evils done towards the Islamic world as they are nothing more than our victims; and innocent victims at that! Aragon
I agree that Islam has many troubling aspects and that these are used by many people to justify violence. I don't think this kind of rhetoric from our side is helpful in achieving peace. It only inflames the situation and has the potential to anger and radicalise otherwise ordinary Muslims. PhuturePriest
I think he meant to say Gaul. Gaul indeed had very interesting tribes which fought and were ultimately conquered by the Roman Empire, but I'm not sure what it has to do with the statement . John Ryan
The trouble with Islam and the Qur'an is that it is a regression to Judaism and the Old Testament. Mohammad comes off as a Moses type figure. Instead of this message of love, mercy and kindness to our enemies, we find the same dichotomy between the Knights and the Barbarians, the Chosen and the Gentile. The caveat is Sufism, of which I hold the highest respect. Edited September 28, 2014 by John Ryan
