CrossCuT
The vanity of wanting to create a perfect baby rather allowing God to do the creating. Are you referring to eugenics or curing mitochondrial disease?
CatherineM
If you carry some horrific genetic disorder, don't have natural children, just adopt. You don't have to play with an elemental force just so you can say that little Susie has my eyes and nose.
CrossCuT
Im not going to judge anyone for making that decision for themselves; im not going to say that someone is doing it for vain reasons. I think it is a fantastic new window of opportunity to fight a fatal disease and a step in a positive direction to being able to fight other diseases we dont fully understand yet. Didacus
Eugenics. Nothing new under the sun. I agree - this opens the door to many questions, many of which have the potential of being disastrous! Such an area must be explored very carefully, and limits set prior to embarking on such a path. Fighting disease is one thing, but say a couple wanted a girl instead of a boy would they be allowed to manipulate genetics to this end? What about Down's syndrome? What if you wanted to give your child just that little extra edge and make sure he or she was smart (considering stupidity as a disease... actually, more like a plague of sorts). Huge and many questions to be answered here...
