Basilisa Marie
Burke's comments are really good, and very measured. His comments are pretty supportive of the Synod, but express his concerns about making sure we uphold the reality of marriage's permanence. It's got to be disheartening for him to know the reason why the number of annulment cases are declining aren't because people are better formed going into marriage, but because people just don't care anymore. If anything it further underscores the desperate need to evangelize, especially within the Church herself. We really have to get back to basics with people, and fight the apathy when it comes to their faith. Unless we do that, we just might end up with the "smaller" Church Benedict talked about. And I don't believe that's a good thing.
