Basilisa Marie
You know what's invasive? Getting unsolicited pictures of the franchise players genitals. Google brett favre jenn sterger if you weren't already aware. Want to talk about his previous Vicodin addiction, too? I'm not saying he's a wonderful person, I'm saying that I know people who actually personally know him. You want to make this a spitting match about what team enjoys the moral highground? Here. Player Arrests Vary Widely Among NFL Teams. Fame does weird things to people, and unfortunately moral fiber isn't a requirement for joining the NFL. Maybe it should be? If you want to support a team with the fewest number of arrests, have fun being a Cardinals, Rams, or Texans fan. Or maybe you won't, because they all have eleven arrests since 2000, and you're looking for a team that doesn't have any? PhuturePriest
:| But like, nothing happens for most of it, it's just guys running around until something exciting happens for like a split second! First off, it's not a split second. Secondly, it takes more skill to play European football, that's why it takes longer to score. Thirdly, it's a game of patience. Yeah, you know, thing Americans don't have. :| The wait builds anticipation, and the place absolutely explodes when there's a score. It's way more exciting than when an American football team scores. I don't think more skill is involved, but more endurance? Sure, I'll totally give you that. But more exciting? Meh, excitement comes from your personal investment in the team. I had fun watching the World Cup, and it was great when what's his face (Muller?) from Germany scored, but it wasn't nearly as fun as watching my high school football team win a berth to the state tournament. Lilllabettt
http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2014/09/13/details-emerge-in-adrian-peterson-child-abuse-case-im-all-tearing-that-butt-up-when-needed/ If the child was in my class I would have to report this. But honestly ... idk. We all have norms about discipline. Getting a "whoopin" means getting switched on the but and legs. If you use a switch instead of an open hand, it can leave a mark like that if you're not careful. I would never switch for that reason, although I have never spanked period, even when the parents request it. Liability. Now if the kid had a black eye I would say lock him up and throw away the key. But maybe what Dad needs is some parenting education, about other forms of discipline, or about appropriate ways to use corporal punishment if they choose to use it. Cops say he is being cooperative, so hopefully they can address the incident without the kids losing their father.

You've never heard a crowd explode and roar until you're at a game at the World Cup. People who have attended both World Cups and Super Bowls say crowds at the World Cup are always more energetic and excited. Do you realize the level of excitement required to get British people to jump up and down? :|
Semper Catholic
This is why you watch sports that are actually entertaining, like European football. Watch out we have an edgy hipster here. This kind of stuff happens all the time with European soccer players. Racism, assault, just as bad as the NFL. You should feel bad. Also:if anyone is still "on the fence" after viewing those photos you are a bad person. Just straight up.

Semper Catholic
Just straight up? Why not straight down or straight forward? Like I said before condoning beating a 4 year old in the legs, back, and scrotum until they are a bloody mess because it's "how some parents discipline their kids" is incredibly dumb. Peterson just lost a child last year from being beaten to death by the mothers boyfriend. Appalling that he still thought this was right. I don't really understand how there are two sides to this issue.

I don't really understand how there are two sides to this issue. Perhaps your lack of understanding reflects a lack of experience, or maybe an internalization of paternalistic attitudes. In some communities there is a strong tradition of corporal punishment in strong, loving families. In some communities discipline is a matter of survival, and punishment for transgressions is proportionately severe. It is not the place of people standing outside these communities to tell people living in them that their "way" is wrong. When I was teaching, one of my first graders got a hot iron pressed to his face by his stepfather. That's child abuse. This looks like a case of over-doing it with a switch. Not acceptable. But is that a good enough reason to separate a boy from his father - no. If you think the damage in those photos is bad, wait till you see what happens if "enlightened society" decides the boy isn't allowed to have his father. Most likely Peterson was raised with this form of discipline. Most likely all his friends growing up received this kind of discipline. Good possibility he has no experience with other ways of doing it. So give him some experience. Or if he wants to continue this method, give him tools to avoid over-doing it. For example, knowing to never administer corporal punishment while angry.

If an adult woman or man walked into a police station and had these marks on them it would be felony assault. Not sure how that doesn't correlate to a defenseless 4 year old who isn't able to comprehend what is happening to him. As to separating this kid from his father (who isn't in his custody in the first place) I would say it's probably a good idea. Growing up with an abuser is not a good thing. Playing the culture card is a garbage copout. That's how we've grown a society of misogyny and rape culture that devalues women and turns a blind eye to abuse because "it's not my culture". Well, like I said, I think the dismissive tone is a product of inexperience. With children in general and with non-white families in particular. This is off topic but it seems to me you may have gotten the front-side of a womens studies syllabus and missed the backside. Or perhaps you had a girlfriend who got the front side but not the back side. FYI, you sound silly to people who study feminism. Cultural relativism is not how the world gave birth to misogyny. Did you learn these words in one of your liberal arts core classes? hmmmm stumbling attempts to use feminist and race studies language. My spidey sense is detecting a college educated white man.
