Anyone particularly fond of / familiar with San Fran? Going for a handful of days at the beginning of next month and looking for tips. I will tour Grace Cathedral (going for a wedding there, so excited) and visit Alcatraz. A stroll through The Castro will obvs be on the list, among other things (like a visit to the bridge -- fortunately for me, for the reception). Muir Woods are a maybe for this trip. Anything else?

If you like visiting old churches, there are plenty of them, starting with the original mission church which is not far from Castro. Over near Haight & Ashbury, St. Ignatius is an impressive Jesuit church, and across the street there's a Carmelite convent where part of the chapel is open to the public. There are some good hiking trails along the northwestern shore/Presidio area. Little Italy and Chinatown are fun. Of course, eating there will be more expensive... we ate at some hole in the wall Pakistani joint in some random neighborhood. Golden Gate Park is also fun to wander around.

It would be in the spirit of San Fran to just throw a dart at the map and go there.

That's the plan for most of Friday and Sunday (if I don't end up in Sonoma). :like: Thanks for the tips!
