Nihil Obstat
I don't think we should or can make judgements, which implies we have full knowledge of all factors pertaining to a situation and can therefore pass, and in Justice, judgement on it. What I think we do in daily life is assess a situation that has some relevance to oneself and one's own circumstances - but without any sort of judgement. We are aware too in our assessments that we might well be wrong not knowing ALL the factors that has brought it about, hence we do not pass any sort of infallible judgement with sentence - which is absolutely impossible to human beings. To me, the word "judge" not only encompasses an assessment but having assessed, also to declare the sentence. We do know very often what is morally right and morally wrong. This is not judgement in my book, rather it is an assessment. Obviously (and for me beyond any question) is "Judge not that you may not be judged. As you judge so will judgement be metered out to you". Therefore, I need to ask myself "What exactly is it to judge?" and so have defined for myself "judge" and "assess". Our courts are said to judge and then to pass sentence and this remains a fallible human action and decision, not ah infallible moral judgement and sentence. The two are 'chalk and cheese'. And to me, Jesus was speaking to us about passing personal moral judgements on others. And if lacking any quality of Mercy, compassion and understanding, will mean that God will pass judgement on us also lacking any quality of Mercy, compassion and understanding. Likewise, if we are merciful, compassionate and understanding creatures with each other as we journey, then God will be the same when the time of our own Final Judgement is present and the now of our own journey. Jimmy Aiken from Catholic Answers had some interesting points to make http://www.ncregister.com/blog/jimmy-akin/what-did-jesus-mean-when-he-said-not-to-judge-others-10-things-to-know-and/ As to who will be our next pope after Francis - anyone's guess and it might be as with the election of Pope Francis, that person never guessed nor remotely considered and a complete surprise to all. May it prove a happy and delightful surprise as with Pope Francis. Amen. It seems that His Eminence directly disagrees with your distinction in terminology. Do you think his use of the term is problematic?

Do you think his use of the term is problematic? With that in mind, here's more undamnable evidence that Burke should become the next Pope: http://rorate-caeli.blogspot.com/2014/09/we-must-be-ready-to-defend-truth-of.html "Even shackled by chains in prison, Saint John the Baptist did not lose the freedom to speak the truth. So, too, there is no one of us who loses the same freedom, even if we must give up our life for the sake of the truth." - Raymond Cardinal Burke

No. People either need to get a sense of humor or take a vacation until they can find one somewhere. This is a hypo thread about possible future popes... if this can't be a little fun, then it's a sad state of affairs.
superblue
Anyone wondering when the Holy Spirit is going to choose someone from another race altogether, like Korea, China, India, ... I mean we already have the first Italian Pope from another country.. so what gives. I am just so tickled pink like everyone else for the next Pope. It is really quite amazing that a Pope is still picked after all these years. Time after time I am like ya know what, I got a feeling there isn't going to be a Pope this time. But surprise the Holy Spirit mysteriously picks just the right Pope.

This is a hypo thread about possible future popes... if this can't be a little fun, then it's a sad state of affairs. You are being repeatedly belligerent and uncharitable. You have been condescending (repeatedly telling me how I need to stop "putting stake in the future" and calling me "little one" which is perhaps the most condescending thing someone has ever called me) and you keep telling me information I already know. I am not having the best week, people on Phatmass everywhere are being snarky, and my BS meter has hit its full capacity. Please be a mature adult and respect my wishes. PhuturePriest
Have a fun trip! Where do you think you'll visit? A vacation doesn't have to last a week. It only has to last until the vein in the side of your neck isn't showing anymore.
