PhuturePriest
What I actually said was 'If Francis dies or steps down, I want Ouellet again but he will be 80 in 2024, so I'm not holding my breath that it will happen.' My statement is hardly as definitive as saying that one 'honestly' does or doesn't think a thing will happen. I don't honestly know one way or the other, but if I held my breath until 2024, it would be very uncomfortable for me as I turned blue and passed out, woke up, held my breath, turned blue, passed out, etc, etc, etc. so I am not holding my breath that it will happen. You see how simple it all is when explained clearly and concisely?? :P Srsly, little one, you get way too involved in things that we have no control over. Let it go, let God. :) Hypo: Fetus honestly thinks Francis will resign. See, easy. It's self-imposed vacation time. Don't blow up the phorum while I'm gone. Vincent Vega
Francis said recently: "two or three more years, and then I'll go to the house of the Father." So there's that. Moving back with your parents at that age? How embarrassing. Somebody should have told him to study something that would have gotten him a real job. CountrySteve21
I'd love to see Schneider as Pope, maybe that syllabus of errors would finally come around. Lets see what the Holy Spirit wills! Pax
Ash Wednesday
My guess is that whoever will be the next pope will be someone we aren't even discussing, quietly doing God's work. And when they announce his name, we'll say "who?"

And when they announce his name, we'll say "who?" the first question, the oldest question in the universe, hidden in plain sight: Pope Who? John Ryan
I find wisdom in both the words of the Holy Father and in the words of Cardinal Burke. I am forever the Confucian/Aristotelian trying to follow the doctrine of the mean. We cannot devolve our thinking to a Miley Cyrus "only God can judge" license to sin. Neither can we become judgmental Pharisees. Edited September 10, 2014 by John Ryan
BarbTherese
http://www.lifesitenews.com/news/we-have-to-judge-acts-vaticans-cardinal-burke-dismantles-who-am-i-to-judge “We have to judge acts, we have to,†Cardinal Burke replied. “All day long we make judgments with regards to certain acts; this is what the natural law is: to choose good and to avoid evil.†This is why Burke should be the next Pope. Burke or Schneider, really, either one would be a dream come true. I don't think we should or can make judgements, which implies we have full knowledge of all factors pertaining to a situation and can therefore pass, and in Justice, judgement on it. What I think we do in daily life is assess a situation that has some relevance to oneself and one's own circumstances - but without any sort of judgement. We are aware too in our assessments that we might well be wrong not knowing ALL the factors that has brought it about, hence we do not pass any sort of infallible judgement with sentence - which is absolutely impossible to human beings. To me, the word "judge" not only encompasses an assessment but having assessed, also to declare the sentence. We do know very often what is morally right and morally wrong. This is not judgement in my book, rather it is an assessment. Obviously (and for me beyond any question) is "Judge not that you may not be judged. As you judge so will judgement be metered out to you". Therefore, I need to ask myself "What exactly is it to judge?" and so have defined for myself "judge" and "assess". Our courts are said to judge and then to pass sentence and this remains a fallible human action and decision, not ah infallible moral judgement and sentence. The two are 'chalk and cheese'. And to me, Jesus was speaking to us about passing personal moral judgements on others. And if lacking any quality of Mercy, compassion and understanding, will mean that God will pass judgement on us also lacking any quality of Mercy, compassion and understanding. Likewise, if we are merciful, compassionate and understanding creatures with each other as we journey, then God will be the same when the time of our own Final Judgement is present and the now of our own journey. Jimmy Aiken from Catholic Answers had some interesting points to make http://www.ncregister.com/blog/jimmy-akin/what-did-jesus-mean-when-he-said-not-to-judge-others-10-things-to-know-and/ As to who will be our next pope after Francis - anyone's guess and it might be as with the election of Pope Francis, that person never guessed nor remotely considered and a complete surprise to all. May it prove a happy and delightful surprise as with Pope Francis. Amen.
