Apartment: In Thanksgiving

Last week I posted that I was headed up to NY to check out an on-campus apartment with Brian. Everything looked reasonable and we agreed to take it — he will move in Saturday, which also happens to be our 3rd anniversary together. I won't be able to be there, but we are still grateful for the gift of a place that's ours. I can't wait to be done with being apart!

Now, there are a few more things to pray for. I lived at my university when I was in college, so I'm familiar with what it's like and didn't have ridiculous expectations.

However, our disability-accessible apartment is barely accessible. The bathroom is large, but the shower itself is incredibly small and does not have a seat, which is critical for me. We'll be talking with the disabled student services office and the building maintenance team this week to discuss a solution. I'm not terribly worried about it, but considering it's supposed to be accessible, it's very frustrating that we are running into this at all.

Brian moved all the furniture around to maximize the space we have so that I can get around comfortably with my walker.

Additionally, we were told that we could choose to have air conditioning put in. However, they're now saying that's not possible for every apartment, and we'll need to have it inspected next week to see if ours can handle it. Extreme heat and cold cause extra fatigue for me, so I'm praying hard that it can work for us. Otherwise I'll be taking a lot of cold showers and walks to the community center during the summer.

Please pray that everything will go as well as it can for us. The building is old, and I understand that there is only so much they can do. There are no other vacancies for a married couple anywhere on campus, so for now this is our only option.

Despite the snags, I'm over the moon about our little place and I'm sure with a little love it'll be great. I hope that the grace and joy of marriage will keep me positive if our requested changes can't happen.

St. Joseph, pray for us!
