Credo in Deum
This is sad and Fulton Sheen would have laughed at the fuss people are making over his remains. Why is it so hard to respect what Fulton Sheen expressed in his will and inspect the body from New York? All of this sounds like Peoria wants a pilgrimage attraction which is why possible sainthood is apparently not a good enough outcome.

puellapaschalis
I blame whoever is not respecting the last will and testament of Fulton Sheen. St. JP2 stated that he wanted his papers destroyed after his death. This was ignored so that they could serve as evidence in his own cause. Credo in Deum
IF anyone is actually doing that, yes sure. The Last Will and Testament of Fulton J. Sheen In the Name of God, Amen. I, FULTON J. SHEEN, a duly ordained Priest and a consecrated Archbishop of the Holy Catholic Church, do humbly commend my soul to God, the Father, Who Created me; to God, the Son Who redeemed me and to God, the Holy Spirit Who sanctified me, humbly asking pardon for all my offenses and begging pardon of those whom I have offended, and being of sound mind and memory and well knowing the uncertainty of this life, do hereby make, publish and declare the following as for my last Will and Testament, hereby revoking any and all for-mer wills by me at any time heretofore made. FIRST: I direct that the expenses of my last illness and my funeral expenses be paid as soon after my decease as may be practicable. SECOND: It is my will and I direct that my Executor hereinafter named, arrange for my funeral Mass to be celebrated at St. Patrick’s Cathedral, New York City, and for my burial in Calvary Cemetery, the official cemetery of the Archdiocese of New York. THIRD: I give the sum of Two Thousand ($2,000.00) Dollars to Bishop Edward T. O’Meara; the sum of One Thousand ($1,000.00) Dollars to Father Vincent Nugent and the sum of One Thousand ($1,000.00) Dollars to Father Michael Hogan of the Diocese of Rochester, asking each of them to read one Low Mass for my intention. FOURTH: I give and bequeath my Russian Jasper Stone Chalice by Keibel to St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Fifth Avenue and 50th Street, New York City. FIFTH: I give the possession of my library, manuscripts, files, kinescopes and video tapes to the Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen Archives of St. Bernard’s Seminary, Rochester, New York. All publication rights for these properties I give and bequeath to The Society for the Propagation of the Faith, National Office, located at 366 Fifth Avenue, New York, New York for its general purposes. SIXTH: I give all of my personal property, including my rings, croziers, crosses, chalices and religious vestments to my Executor, to be distributed in accordance with a letter of direction which I have given him. SEVENTH: I give to The Society for the Propagation of the Faith, National Office, located at 366 Fifth Avenue, New York, New York, all the rest, residue and remainder of my estate, both real and personal, of whatever kind, nature and description and wheresoever the same will be situated, together with all right, title and interest to any copyrights which I may own at the time of my death, on any published books, recordings, kinescopes and video tapes, together with the right to republish the same at any time and to apply for and assign any copyrights in accordance with this bequest and also the royalties arising from them together with any interest that I may have in any trust, estate or power of appointment. EIGHTH: I hereby nominate, constitute and appoint Bishop Edward T. O’Meara as Executor of this my Last Will and Testament. If Bishop Edward. T. O’Meara should, for any reason, fail to qualify or cease to act as Executor of this my Last Will and Testament, I nominate, constitute and appoint His Eminence, Terence Cardinal Cooke, Archbishop of New York, the Executor of this my Last Will and Testament. I direct that no bond or security shall be required of any Executor hereunder in any jurisdiction. NINTH: Without limitation of the powers which are now or may hereafter be conferred by law upon executors and trustees, I fully authorize and empower my Executor and all his successors with respect to any and all property, real or personal, which may at any time constitute part of my estate, in their sole discretion and without applying to any court for permission so to or for instructions in regard thereto, as follows: To delegate any duties or powers, discretionary or otherwise, to a Co-Executor for such period and upon such terms and conditions as may be designed in a written instrument and acknowledged and delivered to such Co-Executor. To do all such acts and exercise all such rights and privileges, although not specifically mentioned hereunder, with relation to any such property as if the absolute owner thereof and to make, execute and deliver any and all instruments or agreements binding my estate or any trust created hereunder. TENTH: I direct that all estate, transfer, succession, inheritance, legacy and similar taxes upon or with respect to any property required to be included in my gross estate under the provision of any tax law and whether or not passing hereunder or upon or with respect to any person with respect to any such property, shall be paid out of my general estate as an expense in the settlement of my estate and that there shall be no pro-ration of any such taxes. IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto subscribed my name and affixed my seal this 4th day of DECEMBER 1979. Taken from his book: "Your Life is Worth Living"by Fulton J Sheen page 349. St. JP2 stated that he wanted his papers destroyed after his death. This was ignored so that they could serve as evidence in his own cause. Disregarding a certain part of the Will which will help with providing evidence for sainthood is not the same as disregarding a part of the Will just so you can say you have the body of a possible saint in your diocese. Sheen being in New York and not Peoria, is not a hinderance to the processes of canonization unless someone is being petty.
KnightofChrist
The will doesn't forbid a temporary move of the remains, nor does it forbid taking of a relic.
Credo in Deum
No one ever claimed it did. It does show that he willed to be barried in New York. Plus why would his will state what to do in the event he would have a cause for canonization? Who would include that in their will? "Oh and if a cause is going to be taken up for my canonization please do this or that with my remains. I want the process to go smoothly."

"Oh and if a cause is going to be taken up for my canonization please do this or that with my remains. I want the process to go smoothly." The temporary removal and removal of any relic was denied, correct? I thought his last wishes was part of the justification of those denials. Cherie
I highly doubt he would have considered his own canonization in his will, and I can only imagine the Holy Saint, looking down from Heaven, would certainly want what is best for the edification of the faithful. And that would certainly NOT be a suspension of his Cause.
Cherie
Also, the exhumation of the body and obtaining of relics is PART of the process. It's important. New York didn't want to go forward with the canonization process; Peoria did. The diocese where the Cause is taken up needs the body to complete that part of the beatification process. So, Peoria really is in a dilemma here.
