let_go_let_God
The way I've been taught is if you shouldn't say it in church you shouldn't say it out side. You are suppost to be an example of Christ and how can you show it with profane language? Also from what I'm reading in this post, swearing also includes the act of taking the Lord's name in vain. Am I reading this right?
Carnanc
I guess maybe its fine when with friends, but I think a lot of people find swearing to be pretty unattractive.
Crusader_4
Jesus called the Pharisees some pretty nasty things. With that being said i dont swear alll that much besides the occasinal D*mn or Bugger (which really isnt a swear) i think its more of an expression to express yourself when your in a moment of pain and cannot think of what to say...whether or not its sin depends on the context in my books and God's name in vain all the time is. crusader1234
I swear more than I should, but I think that the biggest problem is when you swear out of habit. Imagine if you swore at JC?
Maddalena
I heard a priest on EWTN talk say that it was not good to let filthy words roll of the tongue that you receive the Body of Christ with. >_>;; I'm tyring to cut down on cussing.
jasJis
Swearing is a sin because it is inherently disrespectful. Calling somebody an a-hole or f-er is destructive of their dignity. It is coarse and vulgar in most mixed company. It's not wether you think it's bad, it if others may be offended. If you swear around your friends, nobody may be offended and it may not be seriously sinful, but it strengthens a habit and then you risk using words that others find offensive and you have just offended people with an act you could have controlled, so you sinned. Iacobus
Father Konick (sp?) in Rockford did the exam of consenice at D Week. He said swearing is a sin falling under the 10 Commandments. I don't swear so I don't really worry much about it but I trust him. I gather he is fun to go to confession with. LOL! He has been know to call people con artists and stuff in Confession and moves around a lot so you can't look away from him. Plus he is from Chicago and has the rapid to the point no BS speech. LOL! baby C
usualy when I cus I am telling a store that has it in it or when I get mad and try to get my point across. But after I do it I feel bad and think could I have handles that in a differnt way and feel conviction.
Iacobus
The only time I swear is if I am telling a story that has it in it (ie play lines, reading alound, etc). If I get mad I tend not to swear but get loud. LOL!
CreepyCrawler
i dont swear alll that much besides the occasinal D*mn or Bugger (which really isnt a swear)
doesn't bugger = f***er (sodomizer?) in england. it's interesting how stuff like that isn't a swear in the u.s.a. but is in england and vice versa. CreepyCrawler
people at work swear ALL THE TIME and it digusts me. plus, the more i hear it, when i get frustrated or make a mistake or something, sometimes a curse word will slip out instead of darn or whoops or something -- it gets in my head and comes out my mouth! argh! IcePrincessKRS
You guys are bringing up points that I have said in the past and people didn't seem to pay attention to. lol Swearing can be a sin/occasion of sin. Yes, we should all do our best to avoid it. BUT, it is not in and of itself a sin. Some will argue that to simply say sh** is a sin, but if I have this conversation with someone face to face its not a sin to use those words as examples. If I am angry and use them its a sin. I'll have to come back to this....
Carnanc
when I was arround people who swore a lot and started to do it myself I found it was a really hard habit to get out of once you start doing it, and that wouldn't be good cause a lot of people really do not like it.
