Praise & Worship

I am of the BLECH camp when it comes to praise & worship (in most scenarios), but lately, it's been extremely helpful. It helps check my disposition, and when I finally tune in, it reminds me who I live for, who I'm supposed to serve. It's not my clients (who make me cranky), or my colleagues (who sometimes make me feel small), or anyone or anything but God.

Do you like praise & worship? Does it get on your nerves?

When I get in my car to drive home (in under two minutes), I'll turn on secular music or NPR. I only listen to praise at work. You?

I like Gospel and that sort of old country praise stuff. Not at Mass obviously. But as music, and in proper doses, works fine for me.

As long as it isn't at Mass I like it depending on the song - after all, it's mostly a kind of rock music.  It can be rather bland a lot of the time, but there are a lot of songs I particularly like.  I enjoy older hymns done in blues/folk style and I also pick up the guitar and sing those songs occasionally.

On the radio it's the classical music station 90% of the time.

What I find particularly offensive to good taste though is the majority of "Christian rock" that one hears at youth conferences and on Christian radio stations. Blech.

I guess I should qualify that some of this "praise and worship" stuff is only being called such because I don't know how else to label it. Jesus music?

I like different styled variations of old hymns -- especially when combined with a new text and modified accompaniment.

Most of what I'm listening to at work is the mellow stuff that focuses a lot on God's love and awesome power.

I used to listen to P&W music...but it seems like every single song is a carbon copy of everything else. If you heard one you heard them all.

But I also realize that people listen to P&W for reflection, positivity, or whathaveyou.

This is more of along the lines of things I listen to when I feel in the need for reflection or other such spiritual things. Does this count as P&W?
