Benedictus
I think he meant that being in mortal sin should not bring despair—the fact that we still care to pray and seek forgiveness means that all is not lost, even when we sin. I'm honestly glad that's how you read it. I'd agree if that's what was intended. My reading was that it implied that you was unlikely to be in mortal sin because of your desire to pray and please God. Nihil seems to have picked up on my point because he mentioned fundamental option theology, rejected by Saint John Paul ll in his encyclical Veritatis Splendor. Cappie hasn't clarified what he meant. So... :dancer2:
Ash Wednesday
If God stopped hearing prayers from mortal sinners, humanity would be totally screwed.
Nihil Obstat
If God stopped hearing prayers from mortal sinners, humanity would be totally screwed. Humanity is totally screwed, inasmuch as we collectively reject God by sinning. Those who do not repent and earnestly seek God are lost. That is why one of our most grave responsibilities is bringing humanity to a true sense of sin and repentance. We are all terrible sinners, and it is only through God's grace that we have the chance to rise above our sin and be saved. There are many who reject even that grace, and for as long as they reject grace, then yes, they really are totally screwed.

Nihil Obstat
The thing is... There really is nothing simpler than embracing Grace and repenting of our sins. When you think about it, God asks very little of us, weighed against eternal life in His presence. To refuse even that small step... It is a tragic waste. Fidei Defensor
I had a realization — we're so lucky to have the communion of Saints! Even if we fall to sin, we have the whole heavenly family to pray on our behalf!
