Was This A Mortal Sin

So I was in the process of mentioning a statement that I thought could make someone look bad (it was a public statement; anyone could access it anyway). Before finishing it I paused thinking it may be mortal, but I didn't feel comfortable stopping, since I had ready started; I so thought of didn't matter because I had mentioned it in the past and didn't view it as mortal. Still the thought that it would be mortal -- or at least sinful was still in my mind -- but I chose to fi ksh my statement anyway. Should I consider this a mortal sin? I know if you think something is grave matter and do it then it becomes mort. Should I assume that's what happened here? I did describe the situation exactly how I remember it.

Thanks.

I was initially just checking on my ability to post in here, but seeing your question, I'm going to answer it.

My answer is this: As a Practical matter, yes. If you don't, you're going to be consumed by the idea that maybe it was. So you might as well go to confession, get your other sins out of the way, discuss this one in more depth, and seekforgiveness.

In the future, I'd say if in doubt, then take a break. If later sure, go ahead. If unsure, nix the statement. I'm not going to tell you one way or the other for your specific case because you're the best judge. I will say that in doubtful matters, you might as well cover your bases but then let it go. Show remorse, but accept that God will handle the whole shebang with Mercy. Don't skip that first step, is my advice.

From a personal perspective, when you think "maybe I should stop", you're almost always right. Take a break. Unless it's an impending train collision, you probably have time. If you don't, then act in the moment and remind yourself after the fact to work on developing your conscience at the ninja reflex level.

It was pointed out by a concerned party the normal function in here. I'm not actually a pm church scholar, just a regulator checking the extent of his posting ability. Keep that in mind while taking my advice, although it is based on study and education, I don't have many papers proving it. I don't think catechist approval counts, and I honestly don't remember whether we even got a certificate of any sort.
