franciscanheart
Agree with me being more active. Reality dictates otherwise. So, option 1: Shut down the phorum. Option 2: Permanently ban any members who consistently take up too much of my time. Option 3: Come up with creatively brilliant ideas that allow disruptive members to continue posting on phatmass without outright banning them. We've discussed option two in the past. I think it's probably the best way to go seeing as option three is less than likely to become a reality... unless you re-institute purge-atory. Anastasia13
I dont feel that I deserve as being marked as phishy. I have been in contact with people via private message as I attempt to decipher my faith. I have met people who have been good resources of information. I will happily accept beign marked as a Non-Catholic but I do not understand what about my presence is deserving of Phishy. If that is ultimately what the response is to my questions in regards to my faith then i guess Ill just go elsewhere for help since people are not willing on this forum. From what I understand the last person who was marked phishy and subsequently banned was because we was being kind of gross. I think we are OK with her being non-Catholic as long as she does not say she is Catholic.
cmaD2006
... ok so the purge area is gone. Maybe, just maybe put a "free-for-all" area on the phorum where ballistic threads can go. And --- if someone's posts keep forcing a thread into the free-for-all then maybe that's a sign that the person needs to be banned. I also think increasing # of mods is a good idea. Hopefully you can find people who are willing to martyr themselves for the good of all :). And well -- everyone (everyone) needs to respect the mods. Period. No Winchester line here. Use PM and don't slam a mod publically. That can be quite hurtful, and the mods are humans (even the ones with the thickest skins can get hurt). Finally -- I do think that if there are Church Militants that are not acting as Church Militants (it is fine to joke around, but to be mean towards people or lewd is not) they should be demoted. Representing the Church is not just with respect to teaching, it is how life is lived, right?
Anomaly
We've discussed option two in the past. I think it's probably the best way to go seeing as option three is less than likely to become a reality... unless you re-institute purge-atory. I vote for Phurgatory status. I've been here a long time and went from Catholic to atheist to weves. I've been suspended for posts and attitudes that were worse than questioning. People sometimes go through phases. Phurgatory status is a wake up call to think about what you profess and believe while still allowing them to participate to some degree here. It also gives readers a caution when considering what others post. Not everyone who visits are mature adults. Dust has to accommodate a variety of persons while considering what he is morally libel in allowing to occur in a medium he makes possible. veritasluxmea
I agree with the purge board, or a modified form of it, as long as reasons are given.

Amppax
You people don't seem to understand me. You keep saying stuff like, "just deal with the people causing problems". I don't know who is causing problems. Believe it or not, I rarely get a report about a member being disruptive, but I can't count the number of times I've heard "I'm leaving phatmass because of certain members". OK, that is not helpful to me. If I don't know who these mystery people driving everyone away are, I can't rightfully deal with them. So, I created a form. It's getting used. Lots of familiar names on it. Some of these people are staples of the phatmass community. Some names have surprised me. Whatever. edit: never mind. I can find a better way of saying that. dUSt
That's fair. But I still think this is an incredibly poor way to deal with the problem. Why don't we just do it all out in the open, and work through our problems like adults? I'm honestly not being snarky, or at least I'm not trying to be. But this whole privately report people we think are toxic to the community and then ban them... I'm just afraid that this solution could really mess up the community we currently have. I've realized over my time here that there is a certain culture to this forum, and it takes some time to adjust to it. When I was first here, some things really bothered me, and I reacted poorly in a few situations. I called out people that didn't need to be called out, but who I thought did because of their style of communication. It comes down to this: internet message boards are a flawed way of communication, and one which takes time to understand. And each person communicates differently, so it's not even like there's a universal internet message board way of communicating. You just need to spend enough time here to understand how people communicate, what their history is with other posters. If you come in and think you understand everything, you could be pretty upset. And something like this could cause lots of people to get banned, without a proper understanding of the situation. I just hope this doesn't break up what I've come to love about this place. :(You are so 2000 late.

cmaD2006
Hey (former)Boss (aka dUSt): So ... did ya change "Regulator of Phatmassers" to "Minion of Death" yet? Hmmm? Or "Vice Enforcer" (and have Phorum Boss change to "The Enforcer"). Edited August 1, 2014 by cmaD2006
cmaD2006
Ah brillant minds take a few more minutes to hash it out. dUSt -- the Silencer m o d s -- Enforcers ... can be vice versa, but since dUSt can ban, the "Silencer" seems more appropriate. Credo in Deum
You can always have dUSt be "The Godfather" and the mods can have henchmen names. People who are Phishy can be known as Fredo's.
