Saint Guides!

MADS

Recommended Posts

Hello all! I've been on Phatmass for a few months and finally plucked up the courage to start a topic. Do any of you have special Saints who have guided you along the path of your vocation? Just out of curiosity and also to pray for you all : )

Hi Mads! This is a nice question. :)

For me, it's been St Rose of Lima, St Benedict, St Ignatius Loyola, the Blessed Martyrs of Nowogrodek. And the Holy Family.  I'm sure there have been more along the way, but these have guided me quite significantly towards simplicity and towards God.

A lot of different saints were inspirations for me as I was discerning, but I don't think I could pick out one specifically who lead me directly to my state-in-life vocation. However, when I was finishing high school, I asked St. Thomas More to guide my future academic career...and now I'm a canon lawyer! :)

Bl. Charles de Foucauld, his sidekick Little Sister Magdeleine, St Elizabeth (Mary's cousin), St Bernadette, a fair few Carmelite saints (St Teresa of Avila and St John of the Cross in particular), and probably several others I don't know about.

So far, I think it has been Our Lady (obviously), St. Joseph, St. Dominic, St. Jean Marie Vianney, St. Therese of Lisieux, and Bl. Columba Marmion.  At least, I know they have been praying for me.

Quite a few, in fact:

  • Blessed Virgin Mary
  • St. Elizabeth of the Visitation
  • St. Anne (mother of Our Lady and my Confirmation saint)
  • St. John Paul II
  • St. Rose of Lima (drawn to her life of perpetual virginity)
  • St. Therese of Lisieux
  • St. Margaret Mary Alacoque

GAH!  How could I forget two most important saints in my discernment?

  • St. Francis of Assisi
  • St. Clare of Assisi

It's because of them that I really love Franciscan spirituality.  :)

Great question!!!!

Our Blessed Mother
St. Joseph
St. Elizabeth of Hungary (my beautiful, ever present Confirmation saint)
St. Therese (I fell in love with her after reading her book- who wouldn't?!)
St. Dorothy (I was baptized on her feast day!)
St. Madeleine Sophie Barat (I find her life to be so very inspirational!)

St. Maximilian Kolbe has had a serious impact on my discernment... I actually decided to say yes to my vocation because of his witness. St. Therese of Lisieux's teachings and spirituality has also helped me grow as I discern.

I guess I'd have to add St. Kolbe to my list, too, since I was baptized on his feast day (August 14th, 1983).  :)
