ardillacid
Anderson questioned Nienstedt extensively about Wehmeyer. Nienstedt defended his decision in 2009 to appoint Wehmeyer pastor of two parishes despite warnings from Jennifer Haselberger, his chancellor for canonical affairs at the time, that Wehmeyer was a sex addict who had propositioned young men in a bookstore and had been caught cruising in a St. Paul park. Haselberger later resigned in protest of the archdiocese's handling of abuse cases. "I obviously didn't see him being same-sex attracted as an indication that he had any interest sexually in young children and that he was a pedophile," Nienstedt said. Very Interesting. Lil Red
"Our Bishops Still Don't Get It"….what a shocker! I think many of us who have worked in parishes or dioceses aren't really surprised that bishops still don't get it.
Basilisa Marie
Sometimes I wonder if it's a grace that we're finally learning the truth about all of these situations. Not that they happened, but that we can learn about it, instead of letting it stay hidden and fester.
CatherineM
I will say this, the seminarians being trained here are first rate. At some point the bad ones will be gone and buried. We fixed the pipeline. My Dad had a saying for things like child abuse. He'd say that his mind couldn't fathom how someone could do something like that. I think John Paul and most of his bishops were like that in the beginning. They couldn't conceptualize it, so had to turn to "experts." Now though, there is no excuse. The ones still playing this game are doing it to protect the money of the diocese. Bad choice.
