I'm not familiar with the site but if I may quote some things

"It’s fair to ask what kind of Catholic Church we as Evangelicals want to see. At lunch I asked Pope Francis what his heart was for evangelism. He smiled, knowing what was behind my question and comment was, “I’m not interested in converting Evangelicals to Catholicism. I want people to find Jesus in their own community.  There are so many doctrines we will never agree on. Let’s be about showing the love of Jesus.” (Of course Evangelicals do evangelize Catholics and Catholics do the same to us. However, that discussion we will raise another day.)"

I pray and hope thats not true :(

Other sites have reported the same thing. Too soon to say anything for sure, imo. We live in confusing times. But take heart that the Church will preserve the Truth, no matter the cost and no matter the confusion.

He is not concerned with converting evangelicals because his main goal is not conversion.

He is kind and diplomatic.  Do you really expect him to walk up to someone and go, "Sorry, you're wrong.  Catholic Faith is the only true faith, you're going to Hell"

I think his underlying message is trusting in the Holy Spirit that once God truly has acess to one's heart they will be guided to the Truth.

Individuals will change church allegiance based on individual decisions - an evangelical invites a a lax Catholic to a prayer meeting, the lax Catholic gets all fired up for Jesus, and starts going to evangelical church; or a cradle Methodist marries a Catholic and eventually comes into the Catholic church based on some years of exploring Catholic theology. That happens all the time, it always will, and I doubt that anyone can stop it.

The pope leads the institutional Church. His job is not to go evangelizing door-to-door (anyway, does that really work for the Mormons? or Jehovah's Witnesses?). His job is to find common theological ground with other churches and use that as a starting point for developing further unity. We see that happening with the Anglicans at the moment.

And the pope does recognize - perhaps better than we do - that other churches are effective (if not perfect) in leading their members to God.

Is that so wrong?

Is that so wrong?

Heretical communities can lead their members to God only in a limited way - limited by the extent of their errors. The Catholic Church will always be infinitely superior in this sense because we are protected from those errors in a supernatural manner. To allow a Protestant to be led by their errors is to withhold the infinite beauty of the true Church, and that is the greatest of crimes.

Evangelicals, and all Protestants, have no Orders, no Eucharist, no confession, confirmation, anointing. For the most errant among them even their baptisms can be doubtful. So much grace is inaccessible to them, because they are being led by error, not Truth. To decline to lead them away from those errors is a grave denial of the true nature of evangelism.

If we want to truly love and respect our Protestant brethren, then we must pray for their conversion, and work for it by whatever methods our station in life allows us. Pope Francis has perhaps the gravest obligation of all, which is why we must pray daily for him, and all clergy.

Isn't this the same reporter who twice before the Vatican said misquoted the Pope? WHY give him another interview? It's has again caused only confusion.
