blazeingstar
dUSt ... an idea. If the system takes birthdates (and I think it does, and gives you a choice whether or not to publicize it) then lock the PM system to those 18 and older. It prevents anyone from PMing someone who is under 18, and protects everyone from risk (at least those under 18 who are honest) but allows other members to PM. Again of course someone signing into Phatmass could lie about their age, but if someone or a mod/admin notices that they are lying on Phatmass about their age that can be reported and dealt with. I Also a reminder -- phatmassers *can* hit the report button on Private Messages. I did it in the past and I know other phatmassers did the same when they were solicited for money on the site (yes, the person even PMd me ... a mod ... duh). We tagged the person as spam very quickly once we realized what was going on. Good idea, but if I was 18 I would feel I was being punished for being young. My idea would be like another site that i know of does and have a 3 week + 30 post minimum. That can thwart many trouble makers as that's a lot of effort. CrossCuT
Do you feel children under 21 are being punished for their youth since they are not legally allowed to drink?
AnneLine
Yes.. but it does not resolve the issues with young ones reaching out for help. And there are a lot of 'em. For various reasons. This isn't as easy as it seems, is it. Prayers for all... for a wise and just solution.
mortify ii
But how will I continue my subversion in public?
Nihil Obstat
Do you feel children under 21 are being punished for their youth since they are not legally allowed to drink? I think their parents' rights are being illegitimately usurped, but that is neither here nor there.
Credo in Deum
But how will I continue my subversion in public? I think you've screwed that up when you posted all of that hippie content. Plus you don't like the 50s and that's just suspicious.
cmaD2006
Yes.. but it does not resolve the issues with young ones reaching out for help. And there are a lot of 'em. For various reasons. This isn't as easy as it seems, is it. Prayers for all... for a wise and just solution. Young ones reaching out for help can by two ways: a) publically like others have done. And then we recommend solutions publically (i.e. resources, etc). b) through an email to the Phatmass email address that emails dUSt. Here's the thing ... it can become a legal issue. That's a big problem. And unless the site owners can grant dUSt full access to PMs as needed, then there's no real way to handle the issue. Most of the people on Phatmass are not counselors or spiritual directors so there needs to be care on the advice given anyway, and at least by keeping it public there's a bit of protection too for all parties involved. Well -- one more way I guess is to put certain fiddlers in ... that prevent certain types of discussions and immediately send a report. I don't know if that's doable. PhuturePriest
Just do it out in the open. Dust should be ok with it since he took away PMs, The snark is strong with this one.
blazeingstar
Do you feel children under 21 are being punished for their youth since they are not legally allowed to drink? I actually think that under 21 should be able to drink under the guidance of a parent. While I hated the taste, the thanksgiving wine was one of the most amazing gifts of impending adulthood that I was given as a child. Parents could be arrested for that. And if the government ever wanted to get nasty about it, they could enforce it in churches and forbid children to recieve the Holy Eucharist. Yes.. but it does not resolve the issues with young ones reaching out for help. And there are a lot of 'em. For various reasons. This isn't as easy as it seems, is it. Prayers for all... for a wise and just solution. Yep. So excluding all messages for those under 18 is harsh. I mean, how many more threads do we need about FP nearly slicing himself shaving. Best done in private. I think their parents' rights are being illegitimately usurped, but that is neither here nor there. Wow. do we agree on something? PhuturePriest
Building on CMA's idea, keep in mind I'm turning 18 soon and I have super old conversations I've saved, so don't delete them. :P

AnneLine
I see what you mean. But GRRRRRR. Because dust's box is almost always full... and people in trouble will not do it publically... and will only reach out to people they trust. But i see your point.
