Hmmm ... I wonder if PM to mods/Church Scholars/Phorum Bosses from anyone can be turned on (not saying this that well).

I have reached my quota of positive votes for the day.

Ash Wednesday

I was going to post something in response to something that was said on here, but...

It would seem I'm not the only one confused by the groups on here.  Is there an explanation of the different groups / member titles posted somewhere?

Chummy commoner is everyone when they join.

Cordial non-Catholic is when someone shows they are definitely not Catholic.

Phishy is when someone saythey are Catholic and say some things that don't quite sound very Catholic.

Church militant is a Catholic who represents the church well, especially on doctrine. Even if they occasionally don't act perfect, they have demonstrated reliability in knowing their faith and often trying to live it.

Church Scholar is when someone has a Catholic theology degree and usually helps in Q and A. Most of us non-scholars cannot post there. Don't recall if Catholic Religious can.

Catholic Religious is a priest, nun, etc.

Then we have mods (regulators) and admins.

Well some sort of warning would have been nice. At least. For exchange of email addresses, which I don't want to do in public.

I agree with all those who have defended the old pm system due to its benefits.

My religion listing was decided by a Phatmass poll that I remember seeing in the Lame board section and in which many Phatmass members who voted selected Oriental Orthodox. It no longer comes up in a google search, and without a search feature here, I am left to suspect has been deleted for being an old listing. I attend an Orthodox church, which fulfills liturgical attendance responsibilities according to some Eastern Catholic pastoral permissions based on Eastern Catholic cannon law.

Try google and specify site in the search term (site:phatmass.com)

What????

Why do we need a phishy tag?

Surely most of these phishy people are baptized catholics and therefore should be identifying themselves as catholic as much as someone who believes in the tenets of the religion.

riiiiight?

what possible fallout could there be from someone who doesn't believe in church teaching going on to identify themselves publicly as catholic?

Thanks for letting at least some of us back on PM.  Even not using it often, there have been some discernment comments / advice / encouragement messages that I would not have put in an open phorum.

Well, if people associating catholicism with pedophiles was a problem before, restricting PMing on a catholic site to prevent pedophiles sure isnt gonna help. It is a pretty weird action to "have" to do.

Another person here who met many personal friends here, as well as the woman I am marrying. Yes i have them on facebook now, so i dont have to rely on an increasingly erratically ran website to stay in contact with them.

But how exactly would that happen now? "hey person! we should get to know each other better!!! here is my facebook info, email address, phone number, etc posted on an open forum! Surely this wont put our privacy at risk! Im glad us not having PMing anymore prevented us from both being pedophiles today, imagine if we had met on literally any other forum on earth that has private messaging without causing these strange problems?"

So in the new format, people dont get to make friends unless they share private information on a very public site. I dont see how that is a good thing, but i guess this small catholic forum has to batten down the hatches to fight all of the pedophiles in it's ranks? Is this an Onion article?

this could turn into a great profit center for dust...

how many people would use the pm's if dust charged for its use?

or are people just getting in touch with their inner butthurt?
