brandelynmarie
Allow me to add, I personally don't feel comfortable wearing a rosary around my neck, but because of rosary "bracelets", I am ok with that! :)
Anastasia13
There's an order of sisters I've seen, but now can't find. But here's a picture of the White Fathers, clearly with rosary necklaces Is there where I say something about those people being so white??? Lil Red
Yes this topic has been done before. But I keep seeing people with rosaries around their necks, and it makes me really excited to see another Catholic! :yahoo: And then I realize that it "coordinates" with the rest of their clothing and I'm like maybe they're just a fashionable Catholic? I have rosaries in several different colors and bead sizes…if I wanted to color coordinate, that would make me bad?

chrysostom
maybe they're just a fashionable Catholic? I have rosaries in several different colors and bead sizes…if I wanted to color coordinate, that would make me bad? Lol no, I guess my first conversation about it made me think this way. I asked someone in my music band if he prayed the rosary (since I saw it hanging from his neck) and he said, "huh?" That said, I did take the opportunity to take my own rosary from my pocket and explain the manner of praying it, which he thought was cool. So: other people's decorative rosaries are just evangelism opportunities? Maybe I just negated the reason for my own thread?
Luigi
Not necessarily part of the habit, but this sister is wearing a rosary around her neck And the other one seems to be wearing a snake!
Luigi
There's an order of sisters I've seen, but now can't find. But here's a picture of the White Fathers, clearly with rosary necklaces The missionary society known as "White Fathers" (Pères Blancs in French), after their habit, is a Roman Catholic Society of Apostolic Life founded in 1868 by the first Archbishop of Algiers, later Cardinal Lavigerie, as the Missionaries of Our Lady of Africa of Algeria, and is also now known as the Society of the Missionaries of Africa. Members of the society use the post-nominal initials M. Afr. No joke. But you would think in these days they'd switch to using the longer & clunkier but less-likely-to-be-mistaken-as-racist proper name, Missionaries of Africa. I was just having fun with the name. I knew they weren't trying to be racist.
Luigi
Thanks Luigi. I was just having fun with the name. I knew they weren't trying to be racist. I know you knew, but it is rather jarring. I mean, the Dominicans are sometimes referred to as Blackfriars (in England and English) because of their black capes, and the Holy Spirit Adoration Sisters are referred to as the Pink Sisters because of their habits. But white missionaries who work in Africa... calling them White Fathers may have been fine in previous times, but I'm sure it conjures up racial/racist connotations in the minds of many folks. Better they should go back to their proper name. IMVHO
