I've been looking for a commentary on the OF lectionaries, one that enters into the liturgical life of the Church. I've found these http://www.litpress.org/Products/2473/preaching-the-new-lectionary.aspx?MenuId=9188 and  http://www.litpress.org/Products/1833/welcoming-the-word-in-year-b.aspx?MenuId=9188

Has anyone read these or could recommend one? The second one seems good because it draws from the Holy Rule too

The second one by Sr Verna Holyhead is very good I have used it for some time as an aid for homily preparation. Sister Verna was a Good Samaritan Sister here in Australia. The Sisters of the Good Samaritan are a Benedictine based Order founded by Bishop Bede Polding OSB in the early days of Australian European settlement. Her books include: What Name Shall I Tell Them? Reflections on the Biblical Names of God, Welcoming the Word for each of the liturgical years, Pillow for My Heart: Words for Resting Our Grief and The Gift of Saint Benedict.

For many years Verna wrote “Oil and Wine”, a reflection on the Sunday readings published first in print format and most recently, on the Good Samaritan Sisters’ website. It was eagerly anticipated and devoured each week by people from all walks of life and will be sorely missed.

Verna said: “When people in aged care facilities, the outback, or in parishes where life is very barren as far as homilies are concerned, tell me that ‘Oil and Wine’ is a great help to them, I feel that I am being neighbour”.

“Above all,” she said, “I am very aware of the companionship of Jesus the Good Samaritan who pours his healing oil and wine into the half-dead moments of my life.”

Verna Holyhead SGS died on September 25, 2011 age 79, after suffering a stroke a few days earlier.
