Didacus
Servants of Allah documents how some of the slaves were Muslim. Interesting. However, falls short of a statement which is akin to saying islam were co-founders of the US. (just my opinion) Islam took part of the slave trade from Africa to the Americas - the mohamadeen world benefit immensely from the slave trade by the primary providers. I suppose that is a direct influence itself.
Didacus
And away we go! The train ride is just getter better and better. Arabic is said to be the most common language spoken in Marseille today (second largest city of France). The phenomena is described as population replacement, which can be argued fits one the UN description of genocide. John Ryan
However, falls short of a statement which is akin to saying islam were co-founders of the US. (just my opinion) America is the foundation of a secularist, deistic ideology. America is the political revolution of post-Christian deists and secularists. It was given birth by cultural Christians who had grown weary of religion and who had adopted a moral influence, rationalistic Christianity. Whether you want Communism, or anarchy, or a restored French monarchy is all just details.
Ash Wednesday
I'm not a fan of Islam, and I can't stand Obama. That said, I didn't get the impression that he was implying that Islam played a role in founding the U.S. but from a constitutional standpoint they were allowed to be in the U.S. and practice their religion freely (which applied to everyone). But I guess putting it that way didn't sound sufficiently warm and fuzzy enough, given he was speaking at an Iftar dinner, if I'm understanding correctly, something at the White House that's taken place since Clinton and continued with Bush.
